hey good morning Harry good morning
silver dragons good to see you good to
see you thanks for coming back
absolutely I I’ve always come back hey
we had a little bit of a a correction on
Monday with silver and gold price yeah
actually it’s still continuing if you
look at the board I was trying to figure
out what was going on I did some reading
and it appears that there’s margin calls
going on with people who have shorted
the gold and so when a margin call is
when the people you borrowed money from
to buy the gold say we want to be paid
usually that happens when there’s a bit
of a drop and to protect themselves the
people loaning the money to make the
purchases want their money now MH and so
to cover those margin calls people have
to sell to come up with the cash there’s
that and I think some profit taking
which is natural the Market’s been up
quite a bit since the last 2 three weeks
and so you know profit taking is a
    normal thing and probably automatically
generated for some when we look at the
Futures Market that is kind of what
drives spot price so yeah when the
margin calls come and people got to sell
it’s going to drop also I think the
    geopolitical atmosphere that we’re in
people were really worried about kind of
World War III with Iran and all that and
that kind of settled down a little bit
so people weren’t buying into Metals as
much yeah all that all that’s playing
into it if people do the smart thing
like you would with stocks or mutual
funds is dollar cost average just buy at
your normal pace you’re going to smooth
out those Peaks and valleys in the price
over the Long Haul so don’t get scared
or don’t get overly excited with the
market swings just buy at your normal
pace and it’ll average out and smooth
out the bumps in the pricing yeah that’s
the best way to do it and honestly when
we see these dips I kind of like to
think of it as a good thing because we
can now buy our Metals for a little bit
cheaper yeah I mean when we buy shoes or
clothing or whatever we’re looking for
    if something’s on sale we’re a little
bit happier to buy it and I’d say given
the last two weeks there’s a sale yeah
it is a sale have you noticed more
stackers coming in with the lower price
or is it pretty normal it’s been pretty
steady the equilibrium is not where I’d
like it cuz if you look at the Showcase
there’s been a bit more buying
wow by customers than customers selling
to us which is interesting but given the
last couple days of a price drop the
smart stackers are saying hey it’s let’s
buy on the dips it’s an opportunity yeah
normally you have the trays on all three
levels here you got the rounds you got
more rounds here and then usually it’s
all coins here at the top yeah but uh
people are buying them up huh yeah which
is interesting because on the top we
usually keep the government ounces like
KW Grands branas Maples things that have
a little higher premium than the normal
round and yet we have plenty of rounds
but no government ounces yeah so people
seem to be willing to pay that extra
dollar or two to get a government backed
ounce yeah I want to come back to that
idea but first I want to take a look at
your gold sure because you know gold is
still very close to an all-time high and
you actually have some really unique
pieces in here yeah we’ve got some
pieces that are your typical bullion
like a 1 o bar and of course a Gold
Eagle we have a half oun eagle a half
oun Panda and some quar ounz from
various countries but what’s been coming
in also which is really neat is uh the
    pre-1933 gold particularly the double
Eagles or the $20 gold pieces they’ve
been selling very very well and I think
it’s because you’re getting nearly an
    ounce of gold
.96 for a very small premium above just
the gold value so you’re getting a piece
of History a beautiful circulating coin
for just a hair above bullion value and
even uh World coins have been coming in
nothing rare about it but like a a Great
Britain sovereigns a very popular among
those who know bullion and those who
know World gold the gold Sovereign is a
wonderful piece 2354 troy ounce just a
hair under a quarter of an ounce of gold
yeah I have to say on these ones I don’t
    like the depiction of the
Dragon but cuz is kind of like being
slain there I can see that but uh they
do have a dragon on them which is cool
yeah I have a few sovereigns the other
popular gold bullion type coin even
though it was meant to circulate are the
20 Franks coins from the various
countries this one happens to be from
    France and they’re 867 a little L less
than 2/10 of a troy ounce of gold very
popular very low premium above melt for
a coin like this this one should have a
rooster on it yeah there it is yes and
these were minted in Paris which is one
of the oldest mints in the whole world
yeah pretty old I love checking out the
gold speaking of gold we recently did
that half ounce gold giveaway yes we did
and it was claimed so it was
successful and we’re doing another one
    when we get to
230,000 subscribers yeah yes and we’re
heading there quickly I I want to thank
    everyone for participating in this
effort to get silver dragons to 250,000
subscribers this morning we hit 226,000
subscribers on Silver dragons and so I’m
thinking to myself what do we give away
after a half ounce so what I came up
with is a beautiful coin from Great
    Britain it’s 22 karat a 50 P piece from
    1992 and it’s 77 it’s a hair over 3/4 of
an ounce of gold so folks I really
    appreciate the participation and if
you’d continue to do so I’m eager to
give away a little over 3/4 of an ounce
of gold as we hit 230,000 subscribers so
please get on there subscribe well thank
you so much Harry that’s really generous
of you it’s a lot of fun and uh there’s
more fun to come after this at 230 we’ll
talk about the next step yeah so this
one is just over 3/4 of an ounce and one
person is going to win this you know I
think because we’re still a little bit
away from 230 maybe we’ll do the drawing
in the next video how does that sound
sounds good just a sneak preview keep
people excited about what’s going on on
the channel here yeah for sure all right
so let’s come back to the coins and the
rounds this is a debate that I’ve heard
go on for years and years and years
Everyone is always saying oh silver
rounds are better and then the other
people are saying silver coins are
better well it seems like your silver
coins are selling faster than the rounds
    I I mean what’s the difference between
them to begin with the only difference
between a silver coin and a silver round
in the bullion realm is that a silver
coin like a silver eagle is minted by a
government in this case ours the US Mint
versus a silver round which is minted by
a private refiner in terms of content
Purity weight of the coin or round
absolutely identical this is 1 Troy oun
    of 39 fine silver
this is one Trice of 39 fine silver the
    difference here is one is
    $29.50 and the other’s $33 now that’s
not to say that it’s bad to buy a
    government ounce because frankly there
are people who only want us Silver
Eagles or who only want Maples or who
only want something from a sovereign
government and why is that because
you’ve got the backing of that
government on the coin that it is what
it says it is and that’s an ounce of
pure silver but also all these coins
    from various countries are denominated
in the coin of that country in the case
of the US Eagle it’s a $1 piece a silver
round has no denomination it’s just an
ounce of silver not that that’s a bad
thing but if silver ever went to zero
that’s the example I always use because
    it’s a little ridiculous but also it’s a
    distinguishing Factor these would be
worth nothing but these would always be
legal tender as a dollar in this case
this is an example from Australia of a
cabur it’s $1 Australian in this case
this one would be $31 so this would be
$150 more than a silver round but again
same amount of silver the difference
being why someone might choose one
versus another in addition to being a
sovereign coin versus something by a
    private
refiner sometimes it’s just fun to have
variety sometimes it’s just a preference
    you know for
$150 you may prefer a cabur to a buffalo
round just because just because you like
it and that’s as good a reason as any
    because I’m constantly reminding people
that as important as stacking is to the
financial future in some people’s minds
the truth is it’s a hobby it’s fun to
collect this stuff it’s fun to look at
it and enjoy it and if all you had was
buffalo rounds or Sunshine rounds or
whatever your choice is gets a little
boring I do want to play devil’s
advocate for a second here is it not
true that coins are more likely to be
fake than rounds all this stuff coming
from China we see fake Eagles fake
Maples and the rest or is it kind of a
wash it could be fake either way it
definitely can be fake either way but if
you made me choose I would say Sovereign
coins are more often faked at least what
we see here though what’s faked just as
often as Sovereign coins are silver bars
oh yeah that’s true usually the one out
silver bars are very very commonly faked
hey Adrian’s here adri good morning we
got to get him to weigh in on this
debate we’re talking about silver rounds
versus silver coins if you had to pick
one or the other what would you say so
it depends on what you’re trying to
accomplish so myself I would probably go
with the buffalo rounds because I just
want to Stack weight if it was something
that you just you’re getting started and
you’re not too sure what you want to
start with you can never go wrong with
with um Eagles because you always have
    that denominated silver versus a
privately minted silver so I just think
    it’s it’s a better buy for somebody
that’s starting that just wants to
accumulate a little bit of silver like
maybe a tube or two but if you’re trying
to accumulate just ounces total I would
go with a buffalo rounds or even like a
100 oun bar well it’s just interesting
because we were noticing that most of
your coins are kind of sold out at the
moment but you have a lot of rounds yeah
yeah well again it just depends on what
they’re trying to accomplish but it
seems like eagles have been hard to keep
in stock very hard and they’re hard to
Source right now the 2024’s have been
chronically backordered the last oh two
months where we can get most other coins
and rounds within 2 or 3 days or even
    immediately from a local Friendly
competitor 2024 Eagles you’re going to
wait 2 3 weeks or more interesting so
when it comes to the spread though
what’s a better deal like if I bought
one of them and then unfortunately
needed to sell it back tomorrow tomorrow
which one will I do better on I would
buy rounds today at $27 each okay and
    we’re selling them at $ 2950 so I’m
going to do the math right now the
    spread on that is
$2.50 all right I probably would pay the
same or maybe 50 cents more for a
    government ounce any any government
other than the US Eagles so let’s say I
    paid 2750 versus
    $31 that spread is $33.50
so right now the spread is far better
percentage wise on rounds than on
Sovereign coins what about on the
    eagles3 to
$3.50 spread between our buy and sell so
that’s probably similar to the other
government ounces so that makes again
the rounds or the generic uh bars a far
better deal percentage wise but the
spread will vary over time like we’ve
seen the spread get crazy with eagles
when the premiums went in saying it’s
not a fixed thing it’s not a fixed thing
but I would be hard pressed to tell you
about a time when the spread on rounds
was bigger than a spread on Eagles or
even Sovereign coins so the amounts
might vary a little but I think the
ranking is always going to be the rounds
other governments Eagles in terms of the
spread being getting worse as you go
towards Eagles what’s the bottom line
Harry if you had to pick one silver
    round
or silver coins what would you pick I
mean Adrian’s right if you’re stacking
weight silver rounds are a great way to
go but I have to tell you when in my
serious stacking days before I opened
the shop I bought libertads and Eagles
yeah that’s what I was all about because
I was able to afford the dollar or two
price difference and for that I got a
lot more joy out of those coins than
those rounds your team rounds as well
huh yeah it’s just kind of what touching
on what Harry said I I guess we’re
little biased when we do this for a
living because we we of course like the
eagles and and everything else but if
you’re stacking ounces I mean there
can’t go wrong with the rounds well
there you go the coin shop has spoken
and I would agree with you too I would
go the rounds over anything else
especially for weight if you want to get
a lot of weight these are The Very Best
Buy because we typically sell these for
a doar less per ounce than a silver
round so right now we’re at uh 2950 for
uh 1 o round this would be 2850 an ounce
    or
2,850 most people love these bars and
most can’t afford them and I totally
appreciate that position it’s just that
in terms of just buying the most weight
for the least amount of money there’s no
beating a 100 ounce bar and it’s an
angle heart so I know I I would want to
get that one well Harry I really
appreciate all of the Insight once again
and I’m looking forward to that 3/4
ounce giveway away we’ll do it probably
in a week from today I look forward to
giving it away and I’m busting out
trying to hold back on what I might give
away after that but I’m going to hold
off well I have to say when we started
these giveaways it was going to be a
tenth ounce of gold every time yeah but
you have gotten bigger and bigger with
them as we’ve gone along so it’s it
wasn’t actually the original plan but I
    think I’m like a little boy who’s got a
    short attention
span and more is more right more is more
more is more and we’re not complaining
you know it’s we we love it and you know
who approves most of this of all people
my wife really he thinks this is a great
idea then it is a great idea that’s
right all right well thank you so much
    Harry thanks silver dragons thanks
    Adrien

In this video I talk with a coin shop owner and bullion dealer about silver coins and silver rounds. Which is better silver coins vs silver rounds? Silver coins are minted by sovereign mints and have a denomination while silver rounds are minted by private mints and have no denomination. When you are silver stacking which is better silver coins or silver rounds? The three pillars of silver silver stacking are generic silver (silver rounds and silver bars), silver coins, and junk silver. This is a long standing debate on silver rounds vs silver coins. We talk about the spread and when silver coins are the best as well as when silver rounds are the best. The most popular silver round is the buffalo silver round. The most popular silver coins are the American silver eagle, Canadian silver maple leaf, and British silver Britannia. What do you prefer silver rounds vs silver coins?

    1. Hi Guys..have been a subscriber for several years. I am 71 and lived through
the silver crash in 1980. What happened towards the end of this is that the
refiners were so backed up with supply they were paying ten to twenty percent
UNDER spot. The stories I could tell from this period!! I did not like hearing
about margin calls…they are basically what caused the Great Depression.
That British gold is beautiful !!

    2. I know nothing in the world of gold and silver so there's something I don't understand; when Harry said if if the silver lost it's value the coin would be a dollar and the round would be zero. How can that be? They are both the same in weight and purity, so how can a round be worth nothing? It's still an ounce of silver. It makes no sense, to me, that just because a coin is stamped and a round is not, that the value of the round would be worth nothing. Just sounds odd.

    3. Fantastic video, as always! I've learned a lot from this channel. Greetings from Istanbul!

I wish we had more silver coins here for stacking like that. There seems to be some debate, and I don't like how jewelers often disregard them, considering them only for their silver content and not the potential numismatic value. This undermines the whole idea of coin collecting.

Anyway, I've been subscribing to your channel and giving it likes. I hope to win the giveaway competition one day! I'm very excited to return to the States in June and do some shopping.

I have a question: is there any way to check the sell prices of these coins? I can only find buy prices.
