after which we are now going to
split into into two other
streams uh the Defi and crypto
trading for those that want to go into
the commercial part of blockchain to
understand how the trading ecosystem
works then we’re now also going to have
another stream which is the Smart
contract development for those that want
to be
programmers okay so those are the two
that are not
compulsory and you cannot you actually
cannot do both
simultaneously so before we finish these
first three streams and the fundamentals
the
compliance and the marketing before we
finish those three you would have known
where exactly you want to put Place
yourself but just to make it easy if you
don’t have a programming
background if you don’t have the
software development background then I
would just advise you to go for the Defi
and crypto trading
option later on you may now develop
yourself and join the programming stream
the reason is this program is a bit
short so if you don’t already have if
you don’t have a foundation on
programming and software development you
may not be able to catch up when we
start teaching the smart contract
aspect right so between now and the next
two months we are starting now let’s
just because this is the end of this is
the end of April so let’s just assume
that we are starting in
May so by May June by the end of June
you would have known if you can take on
the software development of blockchain
but we’re actually looking at smart
contract development distributed apps
development so that’s the DS okay is De
I apps so before we get to that point
you would have known where you are but
just to prepare you ahead of time if you
don’t have a software development or a
programming background don’t go for that
option so that you don’t
struggle it’s not compulsory we are
going to look at this overview today it
is not compulsory that you must be a
programmer to try in
blockchain even if you’re a data
engineer if if your stream that you you
touch on in your data engineering
whether data analytics or data science
if it had to do with software
programming that means you have the
basic foundational understanding that is
fine but if you don’t have it then you
can skip it in the course of this
overview today we will see some areas of
blockchain that you can go into that
does not need you to be a software
programmer I am not a software
programmer even though I know how to
program software I am not a blockchain
developer even though even though I know
how to develop blockchain apps I did not
focus on that as my core
competence all

blockchain
technology you can see what we have to
the right of your screen the national
policy National blockchain policy for
Nigeria the national blockchain policy
to the Nigerian government has already
seen the potential of blockchain
Technology they have seen that this is
going to be a game changer and it can
impact the country’s economy
significantly whatever can impact the
economy will impact the society and of
course impact the government so the
government is taking serious steps right
to promote blockchain technology but why
should you you yourself why should you
you show interest in blockchain
technology government has shown interest
but why should you show
interest now this technology is becoming
popular that’s one of the reasons why
you are here so I commend you blockchain
technology is becoming popular due to a
few factors all right
now the factors include government
support that we already seeing
development of different blockchain
companies different blockchain sectors
it is growing okay the growing number of
blockchain startups in Nigeria
blockchain startups are growing by Leaps
and Bounds and because of this
blockchain is getting more popular all
right and that’s one of the reasons why
you should pay interest in blockchain
technology as a result of this business
owners in Nigeria are already
considering how they can invite
blockchain into what they are doing okay
blockchain technology has the potential
to transform many
Industries and because of this it is
good to prepare yourself and position
yourself as a blockchain
professional blockchain is beyond
cryptocurrency we are going to see that
in our next class
okay okay so what is block technology we
are going to see this again but let me
just
um tell you
briefly now blockchain technology or
blockchain simply put is a secure that
means it is safe decentralized that
means it’s not in one place distributed
that means it’s a multiple systems
digital ledger so it is digital it’s not
a physical thing that I can hold in my
hand it is digital so it is not
physically tangible okay now it’s a
technology and what is technology
technology is a tool that you can use to
make things work technology is a tool to
solve issues okay so blockchain is a
technology blockchain is not a product
blockchain is not a service blockchain
is not a
blockchain is a technology and you can
use technology for many things both good
and not so good so I need us to
understand that blockchain is not a
person blockchain is not a country
blockchain is not a tribe blockchain is
not a physical product blockchain is not
even a service you are rendering
blockchain is a
technology and a technology is something
that you can use to simplify processes a
technology is something you can use to
make things
work electricity is a
technology but PN is an organization
that uses
electricity right to solve the needs of
power for Nigeria if you go outside
Nigeria there will be another Power
Company in another country that will
still use that technology called
electricity
right now you and I are
using electricity
technology to carry out this lecture
that is one technology because that
technology has powered your devices
whether you’re using a laptop a desktop
a mobile phone or a big server or a
projector you need electrical technology
so it’s a technology another technology
we are using today all of us here is
internet technology
ol so internet is another technology
that you and I are
using internet is not a service or a
product it is a technology upon which
you can build a service and you can
build a product I want us to understand
what blockchain technology is
okay you can also have maybe another
technology a software techn technology
we are using
YouTube YouTube was built on a
software maybe it is a react software or
C+ or C++ or bbasic whatever the
underlying technology it was that is
what they used to build
YouTube maybe it is flutter whatever
technology it was it is a software
technology that software technology any
developer can sit down and use it to
build YouTube YouTube now becomes a
product and everyone of us here can go
and use YouTube to render
services so as I am teaching you you’re
viewing via YouTube you’re using YouTube
now as a service I’m also using YouTube
as a service to convey this training to
you somebody else can use YouTube to
watch comedy another person can use
YouTube to shoot content skit comedy
skit somebody else can use YouTube to
carry out
prayers if you want to go for zooms you
want to go for your prayers it’s either
you go to the mosque physically or if
there’s a virtual option you can join
via YouTube you know perhaps the
technology has gotten to that point but
YouTube is a technology that you can use
to do many things
right now blockchain
technology can also be used to do many
things when we get into our next class
this you will see that blockchain
technology is far beyond
cryptocurrency so we are not even
talking about cryptocurrency
alone blockchain can be used for many
things and we are going to to see a few
Industries here that can apply
blockchain so when you ask about the
benefits of blockchain relax you’re
going to see a few of it here permit me
to wet my throat now this is a
technology that was used to produce this
product this is plastic this a plastic
mug right but there is a manufacturing
technology that was used to make this
product so so that this product
can
inside so that I can now use it to wet
my
throat and get
satisfaction I may be drinking water
here somebody else may decide to put
something else into this and
drink somebody else may decide to use
this to drink
tea somebody else may decide to use this
to drink
coffee this is a c and many people can
use this C to drink different type of
liquids so if this is blockchain
technology for instance you can use this
to do many things so we are not going to
limit blockchain technology to just
cryptocurrency I hope you are following

me now block technology can provide
security and
transparency but we have going to see
the different types of blockchains in
the course of our program that will
enable you to see that we have different
types of blockchains so relax we will
see it in the course of our program now
let’s quickly see some of the benefits
of blockchain Technology one of it is
increased security another is
transparency like I mentioned another is
efficiency in data storage and data
transactions in the course of of our
conversations we will understand what
blockchain transactions are when we hear
transactions most of us think is money
Al loan transactions can mean anything
as a matter of fact any activity on the
blockchain is a transaction any activity
that occs on the blockchain is a
transaction so it’s not just money that
is
transactions
right all right so another benefit of
blockchain technology is reduced
costs paper technology is
expensive blockchain technology is less
expensive so reduced cost is another
benefit of blockchain when you deploy
blockchain technology because
transactions are
safer and faster you know more secure
and more transparent it is cheaper to
deploy in the long run we have seen that
initially um blockchain technology may
be a bit expensive or cost effective to
set up but in the long run your total
cost of ownership or total cost of
operation will become cheaper because
you save on manual transaction and
blockchain also reduces overhead just as
we see with artificial
intelligence machine learning data
science
computer development and computer
programming and all of that anything
that involves
automation reduces costs right anything
that you can automate that you don’t
have to manually go and do this do that
it reduces cost and blockchain is one of
those
technologies that can help you reduce
cost because you you are able to
eliminate third
party involvement okay thereby cost of
the
transaction is

of the main benefits of blockchain

time so by having a transaction on

blockchain this laptop can be
interacting on the blockchain right this
laptop can be interacting on the
blockchain my tablet can be interacting
on the
blockchain but they can all be in
different
locations at the same time interacting
on the same blockchain so it is
distributed and it is what decentralized
so if all of us here are interacting on
the blockchain
network whatever it is we are
interacting on on that same blockchain
network will be on everybody’s system at
the same time so it is what
distributed but because we are all in
different locations it is also
decentralized this helps the blockchain
to become a bit more secure
because you cannot attack all the
systems on a blockchain at the same time
so when we go into blockchain
development for those that that are
going to blockchain programming you are
the ones that will appreciate
decentralization more by the time you
deploy a solution on a blockchain and
you see the interaction you’re going to
enjoy it you appreciate it more right so
it gives you a form of
security because if somebody wants to
attack that Network it will be very
difficult to attack the thousands of
systems on that Network because they are
not all in the same country that’s the
beauty of blockchain Technology anybody
anywhere in the world can interact with
any blockchain depending on the
permission level anyways and we are
going to see
that now improved transparency is one of
the benefits of blockchain
Technology because blockchain can be
traced blockchain transactions can be
traced so the blockchain technology
gives you a form of improved
transparency so when people say
blockchain cannot be Trace blockchain is
not safe and all that is because they’ve
not understood the Deb of blockchain if
you understand the debt of blockchain
Technology then you will know that
everything that happens on the
blockchain can be traced it may be a
little bit difficult for an ordinary
person to be able to trace it
okay okay someone is here for cyber
security uh if you have a cyber security
please focus on it but if you’re just
joining for the orientation that’s fine
okay so that you don’t mix up two
streams at at the same time all right

enable you trace transactions on the
blockchain that means you want to go
into the aspect of of Investigation
right we are going to touch on one or
two of that in the course of our
training there are many more benefits of
blockchain Technology we cannot exhaust
it when we go into the uh model one we
are going to see other benefits of
blockchain now let us look at some
sectors these sectors will also help you
to appreciate some benefits of
blockchain Technology
we are going to look at the real estate
sector as the first use case okay this
is not in any order of priority just for
the ease of presenting this slide to you
okay
now blockchain technology can transform
the real estate sector it will help to
provide transparent and secure of course
efficient transactions while reducing
the need for intermediaries so you may
not really need lots of middle
what they call popularly in Nigeria
thison I don’t know what they call it in
in the North like the owners of the land
son son of the soil that kind of thing
where you buy a land from somebody and
after some years they tell you that
that’s not the person you should have
bought the land from so you have lost
the land or they say come and pay a
again a land that you have bought with
your money you’re not tell come and pay
again or agent but not necessarily just
agent you know some people in those days
before this is just for orientation yes
you’re welcome Anthony before all these
real estate companies started coming up
and before license agent started coming
up there were some a moneyless or family
land as it
were there’s no way to really verify the
actual ownership even when you go to the
land registry you pay for the land you
buy it so you build and after some years
they they say the elderly person in the
family has died and that person is not
the one that is even in charge that she
come and pay again or some lands that
are disputed some people have bought
some land they have CA of
O after some years they come and tell
them that that land is under
dispute there was even a case of a
company that bought a
land after using that land for some
years is state government came and said
that they are the owners of that land
that the person that sold the land for
them was a civil servant and sold the
land without the knowledge of that state
government it was a big
issue now if we have every land every
piece of land documented on a
blockchain and using a blockchain and
not the blockchain because when we get
into our other CL we will see the
difference between a blockchain d
blockchain and other blockchains
okay if there is a
blockchain where people can go and
verify the authenticity of a
land before they
pay and if that blockchain is associated
with the government either at the
federal level or the state
level if the government is now the
issuing or Authority the Apex issue
authority of that piece of
land the moment they verify on a
blockchain that that particular land
belongs to
someone whoever wants to buy that land
can buy it with peace as a matter of
fact that person does not need to be in
the country in other words you can be
outside Nigeria and you can buy a land
in Nigeria with peace of
mind also you can be in Nigeria and you
can buy a piece of land anywhere in the
world without needing to go there to see
the land if it has been deployed on the
blockchain those are some of the
benefits of real estate on the
blockchain we will see
more we can also look at the education
sector and particularly excited that b
University is the one giving you this
platform to study blockchain
technology I must commend bz University
for being one of the best institutions
in Nigeria to deliver structured
training for
blockchain why did I say
structured many other institutions have
been trying to do this but it’s not
structured and you can go and watch
YouTube trainings on blockchain and all
of that but we are having for the first
time a structured learning path
that you can learn blockchain technology

graduate get a
certification be in an academic
institution that can guide you improve
yourself become a professional and
position yourself in the society to
start Building blockchain Solutions or
to consult or to improve the face of
blockchain in the
country right so for any of you that

blockchain it can be transparent we
don’t need to do ballot paper counting 1
2 3 we don’t need to do that because
when you vote on the blockchain it will
be real time

has a blockchain flavor on it there’s
the merchant side there is the user
side now the user side may not
necessarily involve blockchain but the
merchant side has some blockchain
functionalities to help for transparent
transactions instant settlement and
distribution and decentralization and
all of that right
traceability as a marketer of search it
is a B2B trans
action if you are in that department or
that sbu that small business unit of the
central bank because the Ina is a
product of the central bank if you’re in
that department it should be one of your
duty to help the other mechants that are
going to be using it the commercial
Banks and other businesses that will be
using that product to understand the
functionality okay so you may not be the
developer as a matter of fact we don’t
know many blockchain devs because
blockchain de don’t come out blockchain
de like sitting behind their screens
doing their work so you don’t need to be
a dead but after the dev has finished
the product you as a marketer is the one
that we have to let people know about it
it can be two prongs you can be a
marketer and a sales rep or a sales
executive or sales director there’s
different between marketing and sales
the marketing department is the one that
is responsible for the advertisement the
marketing department is one that is
responsible for the awareness it is not
the developers
job a developer has produced the product
his job has
finished the product
manager has worked with the developer to
give bets to the product the product
manager we have now to to work with the
marketer to create the awareness
campaign
to push the product out there now the
marketer is the one that must make sure
that this product is known by everyone
but when people want to buy the sales
people are the ones that will work with
the marketer to say okay we have a
prospect this fintech wants to use or
this organization wants to use this in
product as a met I’m using Ina because
that’s the one of the examples we
have so the sales executive we have to
follow these people to see how they can
close the deal for that blockchain
product it can also be a service it’s
not compos that it must be a product and
we will see how you can have services on
the
blockchain when the sale is done there
supposed to be an after sales service
the after sales service will work with
the technical team
in case transactions have been made and
there are some issues some glitches with
the
transactions the sales people we have to
inform the support team how to improve
on the transaction issues the support
team we also have to work with the dev
again to see is it coming from the app
or is it coming from the users is it
coming from the users or is it coming
from the internet service provider
if you recall few weeks ago we had
internet issues in
Nigeria Ando affected other countries in
Africa actually West
Africa if you deployed a blockchain
solution and there was internet issue if
that blockchain solution is having a
problem or is encountering some glitches
and customers are now
complaining that this product is bad
this product is bad hope you know that
it is from the sales ass aspect that
support we have to come in and the
support people have to work with the
technical team of course support can be
technical support and non-technical
support all of these people must
understand the full value chain of
blockchain

because a company will not carry their
software developer to stay behind a
phone making phone call with customer
okay what is the problem click on this
check this no no serious organization we
car a software developer to be talking
with customers no serious org
organization does that so it’s the
support team that is doing that sorry

coming out you can be among the people
that are doing the the better testing of
that product you’re not the software
developer you’re not a programmer so you
use it from the standpoint of an end
user and you can give suggestions on how
that product or service can be improved
upon even though you’re not the software
developer that is programming it are you
seeing different ways that you can come
into the blockchain space you can be the
marketer you can be the sales rep you
can be the technical support you can be
the call center agent so if you’re a
call center agent working for a
blockchain company and a customer is
complain about a particular product or
service of that blockchain company if
you don’t understand how blockchain
works right you may not be able to give
them the proper answer and mind you you
might not have the opportunity to pick
the phone and call the software
developer immediately so you you must
understand blockchain technology to an
extent to enable you work in any
blockchain organization okay so it’s not
just becoming a developer you can also
be a consultant
you can work freelance you can have your
own company so your company can be a
consultant to other companies that want
to come into the blockchain space your
company can be an educational consultant
on blockchain where you go from one
school to another and help them build
blockchain Solutions but your company
may not be the company that is building
the
solution your company can partner with
another company that does blockchain
development when you get these offers to
build blockchain solution because you
understand how blockchain works you can
sit with them and do a user needs
assessment after you’ve done the needs
assessment you can design what works for
them after you’ve checked
everything and they approved the project
you can now partner with a blockchain
development company and they will build
the solution for you but you don’t even
need to put any software developer in
your payroll and the truth is blockchain
developers don’t even like collecting
salary these days many of them want to
work freelance so if you want to pay a
blockchain developer it may even be very
it may be very expensive for
you but if you are the type that if your
company is releasing lots of products
every now and then then you may want to
consider warehousing a blockchain
developer all

work with SE so let’s assume that you
are working with the digital assets sub

the Securities and Exchange Commission
you’ll be able to help the government to
fine tune the policies that will benefit
Nigeria and
Nigerians but if you don’t understand
how cryptocurrency work you will still
be assuming that cryptocurrency is the

deploy the cryptocurrency token we will
teach you all of that okay let’s see if
in the future you the one that will
develop or you are going to improve the
Ina or maybe a Nigerian stable coin
although we have about two Nigerian
stable coins that are trying to come up
maybe you will do a better one
