Future of Trans Mountain pipeline expansion as long-awaited project opens

it’s years behind schedule and tens of billions of dollars over budget but oil is now flowing through the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion which the federal government bought in 2018 the expansion means more Canadian crude is now being shipped from Alberta to the BC coast and nearly triples the flow of oil to 890,000 barrels per day and it expands access to lucrative Global markets beyond the US trans Mountain’s original owner Kinder Morgan walked away from it and prime minister kudo’s decision to buy it for $4.5 billion was deeply controversial the cost to complete it has since ballooned to a staggering 34 billion hether uck West explains what Canadians are getting from that investment controversial and expensive twinning Western Canada’s Trans Mountain pipeline proved to be a nearly impossible task seeing its completion has many in Canada’s energy sector breathing a heavy sigh of relief it’s a big deal we’ve been waiting for this for many years it’s hard to build big pipelines and getting this done although it’s been very expensive and very delayed is finally something that’s going to give Market access to Canada which is one of the bigger oil producers in the world until now Canada has only been able to export its oil to North American markets sending its heavy crude by pipeline or rail across western Canada to the American Midwest or the Gulf Coast but the TMX pipeline expansion will allow Canada to export directly to International customers via the Pacific Ocean with new buyers in California China and India the average taxpayer will see some impact this will bump our economy I think it was the Bank of Canada that forecasted bumped the GDP up by 0.25% this one single project was a which is a big deal of course as the owner of much of Canada’s oil resource Alberta stands to see the most Financial gains with provincial royalty payments tied to the price of Western Canadian crude which because of its limited market access has sold at a steep discount because we now have another customer to sell to we’re going to see higher prices for all of our western Canada select product in the past there’s been a heavy discount I’ve been told by my Department officials it’s probably a couple of billion dollar additional revenues that we would get while the new pipeline may be pumping the TMX story is far from done it’s still owned by taxpayers and Ottawa has made clear its intention to divest with questions around how long the infrastructure will be profitable as the world makes its transition away from what’s flowing inside Heather urex West Global News Calgary

After much controversy, years of delays, and being billions of dollars overbudget, oil is finally flowing through the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

It means more Canadian crude oil is now being shipped from Alberta to B.C.’s coast, nearly tripling its flow of oil and expanding access to lucrative global markets beyond the U.S.

But while the new pipeline may be pumping, Ottawa’s intention to divest raises questions about how long the infrastructure will be profitable as the world works to transition away from fossil fuels.

Heather Yourex-West explains what Canadians are getting from the investment and what might be in its future.

    1. I wonder if there is anyone Danielle Smith would like to thank ? ….. If I was Trudeau I'd be referencing Mohamed Ali with a few taunts of …"say my name , say my name " ha

    2. As soon as the Canada 🇨🇦 Trans Mountain pipepine is open, China 🇨🇳 will hurriedly apply to buy Canadian fossil oil and gas for sure.
      Thanks, China for
      – building more and more coal-fired power plants, and
      – burning more and more fossil fuel.

    3. Hopefully now they can shut down the old +70 year old pipeline that his has been built alongside. That's a ticking timebomb buried in the ground. Now that the federal government owns the line it will be the taxpayers paying for any accident that does and will happen eventually with the older line.

    4. 34 billion dollars of the federal deficit is this pipeline. Where are all the comments about “out of control government spending?” “Justinflation”? Crickets.

    5. There needs to be a full forensic audit done on the building of this pipeline. As we taxpayers know, anything that the Liberals touch costs more. This is because they allow their business friends to soak the taxpayer. Do the audit, charge, convict and imprison the criminals.

    6. This should have been done many years ago but because of politics, protesters and first nations…… trying to build it turned into a nightmare.
That's why Kinder Morgan wanted out, so instead of paying for a huge law suit the federal government bought it.
Now the first nations wants to buy a piece of this pipeline using our tax dollars and then what would they do with it ?
They wouldn't use it as ransom, no…they wouldn't do that.

    7. This is long overdue oil company in calgary are damm cheap pure simple.i push this with peter lougheed now money flow back to alberta is about time.OPEC now are piss off due iraq, india and rest start line up buy oil from canada due transit time save big dollars yes.😊

    8. It is the same as iron ore from Quebec when the iron ore producers were first starting up because of high prices in China for construction steel.
A test shipment of iron ore pellets was sent from Sept-Iles port in Quebec to US steel companies on the great lakes.
The price per ton the US companies paid was 35 US dollars.
Then iron ore was then sent to China and it sold for 135 US dollars per ton.

We need more than one customer for our products.
I am glad the Canadian government made the TMX happen.
Canadians should benefit from Canadian products.

    9. Colonial hands exchange to another colonial hand where are the native people who own the land the changement day this crimes will appear not today

    10. Only this, useless lieberal federal government could take a 7 bn dollar project and turn it into a 34 bn dollar, free for all, boondoggle……….where did all that money go ?

    11. The right of way, for the pipeline, through quebec and under the st lawernce, that was started under Harper, for the national pipeline, has been turned into a tunnel for vehicles. This was turdo plan, for stopping the pipeline through quebec.
