Is offshore wind the solution to the EU’s energy challenges | POLITICO Events

The European Union considers offshore renewable energy to be a pillar of the green energy transition, and the potential of this sector to achieve the Green Deal goals is huge. Following the recent publication of the EU’s offshore renewable energy strategy, more than 300 gigawatts of offshore wind is expected to be installed off the bloc’s North Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean coasts by 2050. But the EU will need to increase offshore energy production “twenty times”1 to achieve its climate neutrality goal by 2050 and the current development pace is far too slow. In addition, regional cooperation between member states is crucial to achieve this goal.
