Hey everyone,

Today I called the IRS just to get a simple document, thinking it would be quick… but it turned into an absolutely wild experience. 😳

After 2 hours of waiting, being sent back and forth, and getting lost in different departments, I finally got the agent on the line.

And wow… they were completely unpredictable, cutting me off, yelling, and even insulting me at some points. I couldn’t believe how intense and over-the-top the whole interaction became.

Has anyone else ever had an IRS agent go full-on savage like this? Share your stories—funny, shocking, or just plain insane!

    1. When you have called the IRS for 10+ years, you know immediately by their opening spill if they are going to help or not. I’ve heard all kinds of crazy BS from IRS agents. One told me I need to go tell our CEO of a huge company that he needed to write out his signature better..

But, I’ve also gotten some really awesome agents that just go above and beyond in helping me. Calling for the same company above lead me to find $25M in overpayments just sitting with the IRS and no one had any idea. If any good agents read this, appreciate you!

    2. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago with my state’s DES. This lady was mad and I was the nearest target. I imagine her job is awful but it’s not my fault. I eventually just hung up and moved on with my day buts it’s been bothering me.

These people are not ‘agents,’ at least in the traditional sense. They are Customer Service Reps, or Tax Examiners or some other occupation.

    4. I have only had good agents, all the up to Collection Due Process hearings and CID agents. I think my first audit agent interaction was 1987.

    5. At this point I just assume anyone working for the federal government, if not nuts already, has been driven nuts by the DOGEification of their day-to-day.

    6. Years ago I owed some back taxes and they got assigned to a private collection agency. I could not have asked for a better favor. Suddenly all my calls were answered, I never got placed on hold, they handled the payment plans and all details around it very well, SO POLITE. Company was called CBE group. Really made me re-think privatization lol

I feel so bad for saying this but when i talk to the IRS or any government orginzation and i hear the person on the other end that sounds like a black woman….i automatically assume I am going for a ride and they’ll find every way possible to not help me or insult me.
