    1. It could be such a wide variety of things. It’s most likely nothing worth panicking about, but it could be something that requires a response within 30 days. When will you be back in town?

Could be ranging from a notice of balance due to annual status for installment agreement to notice about health insurance open enrollment.

Thete is no way to tell without opening and reading the letter.

Could be anything from “we’re increasing your refund” to “we’re taking your house” (unlikely but possible). there’s literally no way to know until you open it. 3 days will be fine. Don’t worry about it until you open it. Everything is fixable.

It’s a letter telling you what you paid this month and what the current balance is.

    5. Open your taxpayer account with the IRS. If you haven’t set it up before. Setting up [ID.me](http://ID.me) will be a huge pain. Have your ID card and smartphone ready.

Look for the notice under notices and letters. If you can’t find it there. Look in your account transcripts. Try to find lines saying notice or something was sent from a recent date. Then look up that notice number listed. First look at your account balance. To focus on years with a balance due.

Anyways, most notices are benign. Just informational about a minor adjustment or balance due. Still you need to see what the notice is. As it could be a time sensitive request. Which could cost you money. If you miss the deadline.

You can also call the IRS. But I’d certainly try online first. As calling them takes forever and that was before they got reduced to a skeleton staff.

I got one last month telling me my identity had been stolen. It’s weird but it was a relief that’s all it was.

    7. Are you self employed? And, did you report the correct amount of income from any 1099NECs that you received?
If yes, then you are fine.

I think there is a round of these notices going out, as I had a client get one as well. I think IRS had an input error on their end, and this is acknowledging the correction. Again, if you reported the correct amount on your end, then you’re fine.

    8. Go to this link: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Set up and account with ID me and then you can see thw letter sent in your IRS profile. No need to travel.

Press Get Transcript and then it takes you to the verification through ID me. You verify your identity. Then you have access to your tax history and messages.

      Best of luck.
