Hello all,
I’m a 21yo male who moved to Maine in December 2024 with my friend’s family who’s having to file independently for myself for the first time (last year my parents helped me take care of it). I’m wondering what my best option here may be?
I know the deadline is in early April and I’ve dropped the ball significantly on getting an appointment in so I’ve been looking this week where to file. My workplace partners with a company that offers us 25% off through Liberty but I’ve heard very mixed reviews about them and am steering a little clear now. I work a single job, have since March 2025 so I just hit my 1 year anniversary, I work in the healthcare sector.
The one complication or “hiccup” I have, is when I previously lived in Ohio, I was employed to the same business as my brother. My last work day was in November of 2024, but our old boss screwed up and sent me 2 of my brother’s paychecks marking hours for December. He no longer works there anymore either, but I had obviously sent the money to my brother since it was given to me mistakenly. That being said, they sent me a W2 from Ohio for the 2 weeks worth of pay that was technically his, and I’m unsure how important it is to get that ironed out as well
Since I’m an independent and only 21, not paying much in terms of rent or bills, I started considering options like TurboTax or FreeTaxUSA if they would be easy enough to figure out on my own— but will my incorrect W2 from Ohio make severe complications utilizing one of those services? Thank you everybody in advance.
