Hi everyone, question about TurboTax and HSA. I maxed out my HSA, however my wife also apparently contributed to her HSA, only $200 early in the year, and I didn’t realize it until I saw her W2. So we’ve overpaid by $200. She was on my HDHP. When I tell TT how much we contributed, it doesn’t flag it at all. When I check the box that she or I overpaid, it tells me to go to 2024 tax return and check for form 5329 (don’t have it, didn’t overpay in 2024). I’m confused. If we overpaid in 2025, shouldn’t TT be warning me about it? Or does this overpayment carry over into 2026? I thought I read something about that. Thanks!

    1. What dollar amount did you contribute to your HSA?

Are either of you age 55 or older?

Ttax will alert if it sees you exceeding the annual limit. No, this is not a “next year” thing. The questions you’re getting are trying to ensure you understand the limit. Combined contributions should not exceed the annual family limit including the catch up amount if you or your spouse are of sufficient age. Are you sure the employer contributions were entered on your W2 input to Ttax?
