Made a silly mistake and moved another $500 into my IRA last week for 2025 after seeing the 2026 cap was increased and misunderstanding. Realized my mistake over the weekend and have been attempting to figure out how to best proceed. Through my bank (Ally), I can request a removal of excess before the deadline without incurring a fee, but I've been advised that this typically takes 2-3 business days and there's no guarantee that I'll meet the deadline.
Is my best best just to withdraw the excess as "premature" and take the $50 penalty? Is it worth filing for an extension, or would that not help my situation?
Accidentally over-contributed to my IRA after mixing up the 2026 and 2025 max amounts; what is the best process to avoid excessive penalties?

Contact the custodian ASAP. Some can do 24 hour turnarounds. Only they can give you an answer specific to your situation.
Reclassify it to 2026.
