Howdy, got my name changed in May or thereabouts. I got all my documents changed except I forgot to tell HR. Well, August comes around and my company gets bought out. They start outsourcing HR to another firm, and that's when I I alert them that my name changed. Now I've got two different W-2s from two different companies. The first one has my old name on it. I don't know that HR can retroactively change it because it was technically with another company. I know that I should probably just modify it, but i'd prefer to not if I can. Any advice? Should I just turn it in as is and hope for the best? Much obliged!
Name on W-2 is different legal name, I dunno if HR is able to fix this one.

The name on your W-2 doesn’t matter. What matters is the SSN on your W-2 is correct and the name on your tax return matches the name on your SS card.
Is the IRS still getting paid? Yes. Then they’re okay. lol. But you’re fine
