Hello everyone, so I just finished filing my taxes for the year. I was set to receive a refund of about $100; that is until my tax pro told me that someone claimed me as a dependent on their own return and because of that, I now owe the IRS $250 instead(on top of the $265 I already payed to file). I talked to my parents, who both told me they didn't claim me as a dependent. Nobody else I know would either, so now here I am wondering if I'm being fraudulently claimed. What should I do about it? I heard that I have to send something to the IRS, is that correct? Thank you for all your responses in advance. Cheers!

Someone may have falsely claimed me as a dependent!

All you need to do is get an IP pin, and e-file as normal. That’s it for now. Nothing more complicated than that.

Point is you don’t have to accept not being able to claim yourself (to get the refund you see as correct). Don’t file not claiming yourself.
