I just heard that the funds are going back to the state at the end of the month. I tried looking into it and calling to find out if I qualified, if there is money still there.
I haven't had much luck. Anyone know how I might look into this? I was single with no dependent in 2020. No one could claim me as a dependent either.
I don't recall getting a card.

All of the cards have already been distributed. They’re just expiring if they haven’t been used up yet.
You weren’t eligible if you could be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.
Look at the 2020 California tax return you filed:
* Did you file before October 15, 2021?
* Was this a 2020 Form 540, or a 2020 Form 540NR? –if 540NR, did you live in California for at least 6 months in 2020?
* Is the “If someone can claim you (or your spouse/RDP) as a dependent, check the box here” box on line 6 checked?
* Were you still a California resident between October 2022 and January 2023?
Actually look at the forms you submitted, don’t rely on memory here. You need to see exactly what was filed with California.
Additionally, did you receive a $700 direct deposit between October 2022 and January 2023? Sometimes with these things, people receive the money in a deposit and just don’t realize it.
