I e-filed my 2025 taxes through H&R block on 4/12. After filing, and my federal taxes being accepted I realized I made a mistake in the overtime deduction field. I included all of my overtime income which was around $21000 which put me at the limit for the deduction of $12500. I later realized this field was only meant for qualified overtime income or the difference between your regular and overtime rate which would make my deduction around $6700. After talking to an H&R block rep I e-filed a 1040x amended return the same day with the correct deduction which lowered my return from $3622 to $2346. The original $3622 return just hit my account, and the amended return still is not showing in the IRS website. Should I return the deposit from the IRS? Pay the difference between the returns? Or maybe wait for the amended return to go through and the IRS to reach out? Sorry for the long post but I have never had an issue like this with my taxes, and it has me super stressed. Thanks a ton for any advice!
