hi everyone, i’m a grad school student about to graduate and trying to file my taxes in order to qualify for IDR plans for my federal student loans. I’m filing as single and did not have any income outside of my financial aid (mix of scholarships, grants, and federal student loans).
If I have $6k of scholarship money that I used for non-qualifiable educational expenses (transportation, test and research fees) aka only 6k of taxable income, and my standard deduction is $15.7k, will I owe any money to the IRS? Just trying to make sure i understand everything correctly as this is my first time filing on my own! thank you!

If you made no money then someone is supporting you right? You may very well be a dependent. If you are you do not get a 15k deduction. You get very little.
Were you under age 24 on 12/31/2025?
Since your taxable income is 6K and the standard deduction is well over that, you won’t have any tax to pay. But you should still file for IDR purposes.
