I paid my taxes on the 10th of April through the IRS payment portal. Today, I received a letter in the mail from the IRS dated from April 27th that I have not paid my taxes at all, and I still owe the full amount, plus late fees, interest fees, and a "dishonorable check" fee.
I know I paid my taxes in full on the 10th because my transaction history shows the full amount being sent to the IRS. I know the payment didn't bounce either (at least on my end) because the money has never come back to my account.
I tried to sign in to the IRS payment portal again, but the IDme system has been giving me issues and hasn't been letting me sign in to see what exactly is going on.
What steps should I take?
I paid my due Federal taxes. Got mail from the IRS saying I still owe the full amount + fees

“Dishonorable” check? Did the check do something wrong to get it discharged from the military?
If they’re saying your check was not honored by the bank, you should contact your bank to find out what happened. If you did indeed pay by check, what exactly does your “transaction history” show? Was it a paper check? If so, how would it show that it was paid to the IRS? Some things here are unclear.
Did you make sure that your SSN was on the check (if on paper)?
