Hey guys, I figured I would post my process on getting refunded after 80+ days of waiting on the refund in case anyone finds it helpful or hopeful.
Timeline:
Feb 15: filed taxes through 3rd party
Feb 16: nys accepts
March 1: call the 3rd party asking about state refunds bc the Fed refund came in 2 weeks after filing. Am told it will take 6 weeks minimum for state refunds to roll in
EDIT: Fed refund came in 1 week after filing, not 2
March 30: call again and ask whether they’ve heard about software delays; no color
April 15: see the other state refund finally deposit; reach out to my assembly person; explain the situation. They contact the tax department and get told that by NYS they can’t provide info bc it’s private. I urge them to continue reaching out and asking them to update the tool at least
April 15-April 30th: call the Albany number about 3 times; am told nothing is wrong with my filing, just need to wait.
May 1: tool finally updates and says it’s in the initial stages of approval
May 6: DD deposit date for today
May 8: deposit received
So it was a long time coming. I filled out surveys, called the tax department, reached out to my assembly person. Things did seem to move quicker the moment I got my assembly person involved and was specific about days I’ve been waiting for my refund. Also, it might’ve helped that I said I just wanted updates, not demanding I get refunded.
