Just had an Offer in Compromise accepted that honestly reminded me why I stayed in tax resolution work.

Client originally owed a little over $400k.

Two attorneys had previously worked the case and the client had pretty much lost hope at that point. A lot of emotional stress, years of notices, fear of levies, feeling like life was permanently stuck, etc.

    The IRS accepted $22k.

Not sharing details obviously, but this one was a reminder that sometimes persistence, documentation, and understanding the financial story matters more than just throwing forms at the IRS.

One thing I’ve learned doing resolution work is that a lot of people wait too long to ask for help because they assume:

“there’s no way the IRS would ever settle this”

    Sometimes they won’t.

    But sometimes the difference is:

    proper financial analysis,

    finding errors/inconsistencies,

    building a realistic collectibility case,

and not giving up halfway through the process.

Honestly just really happy for the client. You could hear the relief immediately.

One of the biggest OIC wins I’ve personally worked on just got accepted. I will not Promote!

    1. Nice work! So much OIC work is plain vanilla, fill out the form and stay persistent, but there are other situations that require a completely different level of skill and experience. I’m sure your client is thrilled with your resolution, and you should be, too.
