I lived in 3 states in 2025, Maryland being one of them. After filing taxes on March 10th, I ended up owing about $500 to MD state in income tax.

I cannot get through to ANYONE to set up a payment plan and I am worried about potential evasion / interest accruing.

The states online portal, Marylandtaxes.gov requires a “notice number” from your tax bill to set up a payment plan through their online portal. I do not have a notice number nor a physical bill in the mail. I filed through TurboTax and selected the option to set up a payment plan with my state at a later date.

There are two phone numbers provided in the case that you do not have a notice number, and need to speak to a representative to set up a payment plan. Both phone numbers lead to instant “sorry, this line is busy” messages. Not only can you not get a hold of someone, it INSTANTLY hangs up on you after telling you the line is busy. You can’t even wait on hold or in a queue line. Have called multiple times on five separate days in the last month.

I submitted a help ticket on the comptroller website describing my issue. Submitted on April 16th. Still unanswered.

I no longer live in Maryland, and cannot simply visit an office in-person. I know that’s the best way to handle things, but it’s not physically possible.

I’m hoping someone on this sub has had a similar problem and found a solution. Does anyone know of a specific contact, perhaps an email address or alternative phone number?

    Thanks 😃
