So i received a notice from the IRS that I am being charged a lot of money for “increase in tax” and “decrease in credit for tax withheld” and I realized I forgot to file a w-2 because I had 4 jobs in 2024 and filed 3. Will refiling my taxes with the missing w-2 fix the amount I owe since it was pretty much earnings that were unreported/ untaxed I guess

    Didn’t file a w-2 on taxes

    1. What did the notice tell you to do if you agreed with their interpretation?

Did the change in income affect any credits?

There’s no real action for you to take. The IRS is adjustmenting the Return to what it should be. With W-2, there’s not really anything for you to do at this point. Just get on a payment plan or pay in full.

I suggest that you prepare a correct tax return, including everything you put on the original plus the missing information. Then see if the result is the same as what the IRS is telling you. If so, then pay what they say you owe, and if not, then you have the correct information to talk to them (or send them in a written response).

You can use the tax software you originally used to prepare your return and tell it you want to create an amended return. Then you don’t have to put in everything again, just add the missing information. But **don’t** file the amended return. Follow the instructions in the letter you received.

Is there withholding on the missing W-2 that was not credited?

If a W-2 is not attached, the IRS will assess the income as reported. But won’t credit you for withholding unless you prove it
