I need help with taxes since I know nothing about them and I am not getting any help from my parents. I understand it is late but I had problems getting my W2 from my hometown job since I am out of state and my parents lost it. I am a 20 year old college student. I am not sure if my parents claimed me as dependent or not. All of my school loans are in my name. My car insurance and car is also in my name. My parents pay for my phone bill and I am under their medical insurance but pay my medical bills. My step mom is a co-signer on my apartment but I do not receive help from them for it. My home state is PA where I work for the summer. I make around 5500 there. I go to school in FL and made 4702.27 in 2025. No federal income tax was withheld. I am a little confused about doing my taxes since I am two jobs in different states? Will this make me owe a lot of money? I do not have money to pay the government right now. Any help would be very appreciated since I am very confused.

You make below the threshold to owe federal income tax .

Florida doesn’t have state taxes, so you only pay Pennsylvania state income tax.

Can you ask your employers for another copy?

If you didn’t live with your parents at all, and do not return to their home after a temporary absence then they can’t claim you as a dependent. It sounds like you go back for the summer though. Right? So your time in Florida is only temporary for school?

Assuming that you had a normal job that withheld Social Security and Medicare taxes, you do not make enough money to be required to file federal income taxes, but you will need to file in Pennsylvania, so you might as well just do both (most software requires you to prepare a federal tax return because the numbers flow through to the state). Without knowing what’s on your W-2, we don’t know whether you will owe or get a refund.

File for a federal extension, which is free and automatically grants you a Pennsylvania extension. Then get another a copy of your W-2, which may require contacting your employer and having them send you another one. Once you have both W-2s, you will have the information needed to do your taxes and see if you owe or get a refund.
