I filed my taxes on January 30th. My return was accepted the very next day, and then nothing. I finally got a letter to confirm information on my taxes, which I did, yet when I check the website it just says they've received my refund and are reviewing it. Everybody I know already recieved theirs, and I need this money to survive. What is taking them so long? Why has it not moved past the review stage in over 2 months?

What is taking the IRS so long?

Not sure, I filed my return the past Sunday, it got accepted in 2 hours and they took the money I owed them from my bank account the next day on Monday. So when you owe them money, they’re quick

    2. Just my opinion, but i hink they’re just investigating returns more to prevent identity theft & fraud. ALOT of that happening in recent years

Once it goes into review, the timeline becomes unpredictable. It usually means something triggered a manual check like income verification, credits, or identity confirmation. Even after you respond, it can sit for weeks.

Accepted just means the IRS received it, not that it’s approved. During review, refunds often pause until someone clears it internally. Unfortunately there’s not much movement you’ll see until it’s done.

If you already responded to their letter, it’s mostly a waiting game. Some move quickly, others take a couple months depending on the backlog.

Remember the IRS moves their butts when we need to pay or when they want something but when we need it or the need to pay us they stall.

On what date did you successfully complete the verification process?

It goes fast when the system is willing to issue the refund itself, them asking to confirm information slowed it down considerably because now humans with caseloads are involved. I know it sucks when you need the money, but try to be patient.
