I’ve been 18 since May of 2025, however I’ve only had an official W2 job since last month (march of 2026). I’ve never had a job before this one and I’m barely a month in. Am I still required to do taxes this year?
No. Your 2026 tax return would be filed in early 2027.

Your need to do taxes depends on a combination of things. I suggest you call up the instructions for IRS Form 1040 and read the section under the Title of “Who Must File.” It will tell you all you need to know. There is no exemption for filing a return due to your age but dependency status with parents and your actual income does. And sometimes if you did have a paycheck job in 2025 that earned very little it is a good idea to file to receive a refund for any income taxes withheld from the paycheck. So like so many things in life, your filing “depends” on how your situation fits into the government’s requirements.

Only do your taxes now if you worked in 2025.
Next year you will file your taxes for 2026.
