Hi,
We're using a professional tax preparer to file for an extension.
I'm trying to make an extension payment via a credit card. There are a couple options on https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-your-taxes-by-debit-or-credit-card to make a payment, but I don't see a way to specify that it's for an extension on either Pay1040 or ACI Payments, Inc..
If I go to https://directpay.irs.gov/directpay/payment?execution=e1s1 I can specify that it's an extension payment.
How will the IRS know that we're filing for an extension?
Thanks

The IRS site allows you to specifically select and I would generally always go with that over a 3rd party
That said, if tax year 2025 is selected it should “know” it’s an extension/return payment since we’re before the original 1040 due date and the 2025 Q4 estimate date already passed
Look for “Form 4868”.
