What gives?

I'm at the comparison summary page and somehow, I'm losing almost $11,000 in deductions this year.

My tax return is as simple as it really gets. I always take the standard deduction. Nothing about my tax return is complex. I cannot find anything that sticks out that explains this.

    1. What additional detailed breakdown can you see on the summary page?

Download the PDF draft of the tax return for this year, and the completed one from last year, and compare them side by side until you notice a major difference.

freetaxusa does a line by line comparison, you’re going to need to get more specific.

    3. Since you’re not giving us much to work on, it could be…

      – You spent $11,000 less on breath mints to give your customers
      – You drove 157,414 fewer miles for Uber
      – You abandoned your home and mortgage because the $11,000 in interest was too much
      – Your super expensive disease was healed (congrats!) and you now spend $18,500 less in medical expenses

But seriously, most deductions are listed on Schedule 1, Schedule 1-A, and Schedule A. What do those look like compared to last year (okay, 1-A is a trick question, but pretend it was all $0 last year)?
