A friend once told me he got fined after filing with TurboTax for some years, because they made him pay less taxes than what he actually owed. This year, I entered the exact same information in TurboTax and FreetaxUSA, and for some reason TurboTax showed a higher refund. So I think they could be doing calculation some errors here and there, that people have to pay for down the line. Feel free to try the other site on this last tax paying day (which turns to be free btw for federal taxes, and just $16 for state) ~ https://www.freetaxusa.com?friend=LP5DVJ

This has been gone over repeatedly in this sub. Large differences are invariably due to user input error or misinterpretation of the interview questions between the two software. The best way to track this down is to compare the actual 1040 and associated forms. The likelihood that one software has gone through the entire tax season to date with an unnoticed error in a major form is extremely low.
