I already filed my federal taxes, but I’m still working on my state because one of my former employers hasn’t sent my W-2 yet (I’ve requested it and am still waiting).

For my federal return, I just used my IRS Wage & Income Transcript. For state, I found what I believe is my final pay stub. It matches the W&T transcript for Boxes 1, 2, and 4.

From what I’ve read a final pay stub will contain the same info on your w2 or in this case the W&T. Based on the match, I’m assuming this is my final pay stub and considering using it for the state numbers I need (Boxes 16 and 17).

My question: The IRS transcript matches the pay stub so can I use it for state income and withholding? Or is there something on the W-2 I might be missing?

Just want to make sure I do this correctly. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Using final pay stub for state taxes? Ok if it matches IRS transcript?

    1. If the W-2 is shown on the wage & income transcript, then you probably can see an actual copy of the W-2 if you look for the “information returns” link in your IRS web account.

Yes YTD state tax withholding as shown on final 2025 paystub should be reliable for filing state tax.
