Just got hired at my first 1099 job and I should start in the next week or two.

I work a full time job and am just doing this for some extra money (the goal is $1000/month).

I will be doing respite care for kids with disabilities. They said I can write off my phone plan bc I am required to had a phone. I also will be driving these kids around so I know I can do gas as well. How should I keep track of these? Just receipts or like write everything in a journal? What else could I potentially write off?

How do I know how much of my checks to put to the side for taxes?

Advice for starting first 1099 job

Keep track of your miles driven because that most likely will give you a greater deduction than the gas but you can double check when filing

Get ready to learn record keeping buddy. And keep in mind that the deductible amount is generally only applicable to the portion necessary for work. I’d also read up on quarterly estimated tax payments
