Long story short, contributed to my Roth IRA for 2024 and then I realized I wasn’t able to contribute at all based on MAGI. I made a timely (before the tax deadline of April 2025) distributive correction in early 2025 thus received a 1099-R coded PJ in early 2026 (since it was a 2025 distribution event).
In box 2a (taxable amount) it’s about $280. I did not include this amount in my 2024 tax return with an explanation because I had no idea how to do it through the online platform and consulting CPAs/EAs didn’t seem helpful. From perusing Reddit, it was recommended to consider addend 2024 tax return once the tax form was received.
I originally filed on FreeTaxUSA and it seems like I can no longer file an addendum online and need to mail in. Sounds like a big headache for such a small taxable amount. Thanks in advance.
Do I need to file 2024 tax addendum for 1099-R coded PJ received in 2025 for a corrective distribution for 2024 contribution?

You should file an amended 2024 return, yes. State return as well, if you have state income tax. The additional tax due will likely be minimal.
