My mom had always told me that she was filing my taxes, and that I don't need to worry about it because I'm a dependent, but as I found out, she hasn't done her taxes since 2020 because she believes the government is stealing her money.
Whether that's true or not is an entirely separate conversation— regardless, this doesn't really bode well for me, now that I'm 22, and trying to move out or get apartments, jobs, anything anywhere else. I don't know where to start, and I don't know if that's just it for me. Does anyone have any advice? I don't even know how to start filing, because I was never taught, and searching anything online feels like reading latin.
I'm sorry for not being educated enough about it, I genuinely was never taught—I do want to learn now though, but I feel like I'm a lost cause, but I don't want to just live with this forever.
Tldr; I don't know how to start doing taxes, and I haven't since I was 14. How do I even begin?
