Hello r/tax!
got a bit of a situation here and was hoping you guys can give me some clarification.
I filled my taxes with an expert this year. When it was finished I owed 881$. I agreed to pay the federal amount I owed,173$. I agreed to have the 708$, which is the CA taxes, pulled out of my bank account on 4/15/26. Before that date I realized that I had the funds so I went to the CA Franchise Tax Board and paid it off. Well, on 4/15/26, they pulled another 708$.
I have tried calling but the machine hangs up on me.
I have tried using their chat system but they say they can't help me and need to call.
They told me that this would be refunded to my account automatically but to be honest, I don't Trust them
I tried making a MYftb account with them but they ask for a 540 form which i don't hav, i just have a W2-Form
is there anything I can do to expedite this?
CA Tax help: paid off what I owed and still got money taken out

Form 540 is the form your preparer completed on your behalf and sent to the FTB. Your preparer should have given you a copy, or be able to do so.
It is very likely that this will be automatically refunded, but I would expect it to take weeks to months. Unfortunately, it’s not clear that contacting the FTB will help much, as this is just a matter of giant databases trying to sync with each other and discover that you double-paid the balance due. They’ll find the money eventually, but they are slow.
