Can Blockchain be used to decode the Future of Economics? | Mickelle Weber | TEDxAmsterdamWomen

Mickelle Weber melds economics and emerging technology to give us a roadmap for how smart contracts, written on the blockchain can be used to acknowlege and value the time investment of people contributing to a household. She outlines current economic models and how they fail to account for the billions of dollars of unpaid labor contributed to the world economy each year. It is a silent workforce that the economy depends on but does not value or compensate. We can see that failing to consent to and officially recognize this labor is putting undue economic burden on women’s shoulders and the economic emergency that it causes in the lives of women around the world. Mickelle has a particular passion for validating the financial lives of women through technology. This solution lives at the intersection of women beginning to see and place their contributions in economic terms and technologists disrupting our miopic and outdated financial system.
Mickelle Weber is the Founder of House of Peregrine, a web3 native platform about living internationally. Blockchain and Smart Contracts are creating a new technology layer. With the technology that is emerging now, we are in danger of supercharging the outdated, bias and dangerous systems we currently have in place. Through current technology available today Mickelle gives us a starting point for revolutionizing the financial lives of women, to solve one of invisible economic emergencies of our time. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
