Hey guys crypto Dad here again thanks for joining me on my Wednesday morning Hardware wallet Roundup where we talk about Hardware wallets and the different ways they can they can be used I’m going to demo some transfers back and forth between some wallets for you guys I’m

Also going to cover uh the crypto news that’s going on today so uh quite a big drop in the market so you’ll probably want to know what that one’s all about got some stories lined up for you also a big story about a hardware wallet uh manufacturer or CEO of a uh secure

Wallet company who got scammed trying to claim an airdrop uh so it can happen anybody and it’s a good cautionary tale and I’d like to cover that and go into a little depth about how to avoid that kind of stuff so once again I’m here

With the rig and uh all of my good stuff behind me um I want to thank everybody that joined me today uh it’s my first live stream of 2024 uh the Saturday Night Live stream was on the 30th so uh this is my debut for 2024 it’s also uh a Bitcoin birthday

Today I believe this was the day that the blockchain went live so uh I’ll cover that story as well uh let’s go over here to the screen uh and uh greet everyone who’s here uh craw cof one is here thank you so much asking about the Privacy issue which I believe we covered

On the Saturday Night Live stream in uh a pretty pretty good depth so uh if you want to just check my past live streams I talk about that in quite a bit of detail uh but basically uh there was a developer on uh Twitter that reported that ledger was gathering data uh during

Different operations and uh we looked through the article and determined that uh basically it was just Gathering Anonymous data on the way the uh the product was being used this is not uncommon with products and it can be disabled in the settings uh he was also talking about the genuine check which is

Basically an Integrity check of the wallet uh which is a good thing um so I feel it’s pretty much a nothing burger myself but as I said we covered that in a little more detail and Kenny thank you for being here as always Soccer World thank you for being here Scooby it’s uh

Evening in the UK um glad you could join me I hope it’s not too late over there I uh have gotten some comments from people on my Saturday stream that say I start a little too late for them on Saturday night uh wherever they may be probably

In the UK or Europe so I do this stream once a week to try and catch all of the people that don’t really have have a chance to watch me live on Saturday night so um welcome everybody uh and if you’ve never been in the live stream I’ve got a little

Description of the stuff we’re going to go over and uh the news stories linked that we’re going to talk about and a whole bunch of affiliate links if you’re interested in any of the wallets that I’m talking about today uh of course I’m going to try to get to your questions to

The best of my ability uh we’re probably going to keep this to about an hour we’re still on uh school break here in West Michigan uh from my kids school and uh they’re off this week but uh they want to go visit their friends uh today

So uh we’re going to have to take uh my daughter and my son over to see their friends so Mom and Dad are playing chauffeur today um and uh one of my daughter wants to be dropped off around 1 so instead of doing my stream from

12:00 to 1 I uh uh moved it up about an hour um we’re kind of like uh flexible on the Wednesday stream my Saturday stream is always at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time uh but we started this one uh of doing it around 9:00 a.m. which I

Kind of felt was a bit early for some people um and so I moved it up to 12 and now we’ll pull it back to 11: I don’t know I’ll probably keep it around the 12:00 mark it seems like a good time uh so uh let’s jump into the news without

Any further Ado if uh you’re uh following the market you probably know that uh you woke up to a down Market this morning and uh Bitcoin is currently at 43 uh 414 which is only 4% down from exactly 24 hours ago but I think about an hour or so ago when I

Looked at it if I’m not mistaken it was still around 42 something and it was down 7% from exactly 24 hours before so uh we’re we’re kind of bouncing back the market is kind of going up um but you wouldn’t know it right so uh let’s check

This story here uh it was a lot of people are blaming it on this Matrix Port report um I’ve never heard of them a lot of people hadn’t heard of them I don’t know uh if they’re an expert in Bitcoin uh or crypto at all I think they’re more

Of a mainstream Financial firm uh as far as I know uh but they’re predicting that the ETF will be um rejected by the SEC um and there’s been a lot of excitement around the Bitcoin ETF being approved uh finally after all these years uh so let’s look a little bit at

This story there’s that drop pretty scary right uh but if you’ve been around Bitcoin for a while you’ll know that this is fairly common in the crypto market and the Bitcoin Market uh it’s a very volatile asset uh if you’re new to bitcoin you should get ready for that uh

I’ve seen some uh booms and busts over the times that I’ve been dealing with Bitcoin uh I first got into Bitcoin in 2013 when I bought a little Bitcoin minor a little ant minor on eBay for 350 bucks and M Bitcoin for about a year and

A half back in those days Bitcoin had hit a, I believe in late 2000 gosh I can’t even think of the year now uh probably 2012 or 2011 maybe 2000 I think it was late 2012 Bitcoin had hit $1,000 and when I got into the mining it

Was around 400 and so so everybody back then was saying oh bitcoin’s dead it was it was a bubble it popped at a thousand you’ll never you’ll never hear from it again it’s a scam it’s only used by criminals all that stuff and uh you know then we had the

2017 where Bitcoin hit 20,000 and then we had the crypto winner of 2018 where everybody claimed well Bitcoin hit 20,000 it’ll it’s a bubble it popped it’ll never do it again and blah blah blah same old same old big bitcoin’s used by criminals it’s based on nothing

All that stuff and then boom Bitcoin came back in 2021 peaked out around 70,000 and then it dropped down to 16,000 and everybody said oh Bitcoin was a bubble it popped at 70,000 it’s based on nothing it’s worthless uh same old same old right here we are again uh on a what appears

To be a good runup to maybe a new all-time high we don’t know uh but we got the naysayers again jumping on the bandwagon oh bitcoin’s not worth anything uh so let me now I’m off my soap box so let’s take a look at this story because I got some uh some good

News and some bad news uh so let’s start with the bad news uh Bitcoin slid 8% on Wednesday as Jitters around the anticipated approval of spot Bitcoin uh bit ETF began to enter the market the slump retraced the entire upside move that occurred on January 1st spurring

The liquidation of 500 million worth of positions across derivatives and exchanges the likelihood of the etf’s passage became less and less likely as the market saw a stalemate options analyst uh Greeks live wrote on X weakness in crypto mining stocks and the sell-off in several crypto related US Stocks also reinforc the Market’s

Skepticism uh uh Financial Services firm Matrix Port rebuffed optimistic expectations saying we believe all applications fall short of a critical requirement that must be met before the SEC approves this might be fulfilled by Q2 2024 but we expect the SEC to reject all proposals in January uh following the morning high of

45500 Bitcoin dropped to as low as 4 ,550 before bouncing back to 4220 um and uh here we are now at 43 381 so um was this because of this uh Matrix Court uh Matrix Port report we’ll see uh the next story here uh Bitcoin ETF denial report did not cause 8% BTC

Price crash according to a different analyst uh uh let’s see it was a lawyer uh Bitcoin did not crash by 4,000 in uh $4,000 in hours because of panic over us Regulators rejecting the spot exchange traded ETF that is the opinion of popular commentators after flash BTC price weakness sparked half a billion

Dollars in crypto long liquidations coming at a conspicuous time for Bitcoin which celebrates its 15th birthday on January 3rd the latest snap BTC price downside took the market down almost 9% uh wow okay the move while washing out both Longs and open interest accompanied a report by Max support which we just

Talked about saying they’ll reject the SEC will reject the ETF uh while the report immediately made its presence felt on the market m Port failed to offer concrete evidence as to why the ETF was guaranteed to fail in its debut uh reacting uh Trader analyst and podcaster Mark Scott melker was at a

Loss behind the reasoning of the firm’s perspective this is the quote air quote reason for the dump I put reason in quotes because this is really just a leverage flush regardless this is an opinion oh that’s not what I meant to do uh that’s the actual Twitter post

There uh with zero new information that flies in the face of everything shared by experts right and let’s see I think there was uh let’s see I know people are desperate for a narrative but Bitcoin didn’t sell off because of some silly report about ETF denial uh it sold off because nothing

Goes straight up and it’s an easy grab for liquidity to do a long squeeze in short the market was overbought which makes total sense it’s happened many times with Bitcoin um Bitcoin uh because it’s so volatile and because it moves uh it snowballs right when uh Bitcoin dips a little bit a lot

Of people that were leveraged long get liquidated and this causes more selling and uh causes the dip to be even worse the the the exact same thing happens in the opposite direction uh when Bitcoin takes a a a a shoot higher a lot of people that were leveraged short get

Liquidated and this leads to more buying which uh shoots Bitcoin even higher so it’s usually people that are leveraged in Futures contracts that really uh cause these price swings to Snowball the way they do that’s just been my experience over the years uh so let’s look at some of the

Good news oh that’s that’s the uh Twitter report uh good news uh Michael sailor began selling 216 million in micro strategy stocks for more Bitcoin uh sailor previously said the move would allow him to address his personal obligations and of course buy more Bitcoin right who hasn’t sold

Crypto or stock in order to meet personal obligations right uh executive chairman Michael sailor has begun a four-month process of selling 216 Million worth of his shares in his firm micro strategy previously stating part of it would be used to buy more Bitcoin boom so it was uh something

That uh was planned right but it just goes to show you that uh sailor is still uh bullish on bitcoin and uh you know he’s getting liquid and hoping to buy more so this is good news right and let’s see we got here we got Jim Kramer capitulates on bitcoin technological

Marvel is here to stay wow I remember Jim Kramer being one of the biggest Bitcoin Bashers in the day back in the 18 uh 201829 time frame right Jim Kramer former hedge fund manager and host of cnbc’s Mad Money Tuesday Morning reversed his previously bearish stance on bitcoin ahead of

What’s expected to be us regulatory approval of a spot ETF as the price Rose above 45,000 in the first time for the first time in 21 months this thing you can’t kill it Kramer told cnbc’s David Faber Bitcoin is a technological Marvel and I think people need to start

Recognizing it’s here to stay oh after what seven or eight years of Doom saying and watching Bitcoin Rise From the Ashes uh two or three times you finally realize that Bitcoin is here to say stay good I’m glad uh good news right uh funny fun stuff there and uh

Let’s move on to bit coin’s birthday uh 15 years after Satoshi Nakamoto Min the Genesis block the original cryptocurrency has battled critics haters and agitators and emerged Victorious and is now ranked as one of the top 10 most valuable Assets in the world uh while many celebrate October

31st 2008 uh at which was the release of the Bitcoin white paper as bitco coin’s original birthday others take a more technical approach to determining the true age of Bitcoin for the latter January 3rd is the actual date Bitcoin materialized as a store of valuable as a store of value and transferable currency

So there it is block zero January 3rd 2009 so uh the Genesis block aka the first Bitcoin block was mined on January 3rd 2009 by its mysterious Creator Satoshi Nakamoto What followed was years of Triumph versus naysayers that included critics mainstream media politicians and governments worldwide on the occasion of

Bitcoin’s 15th birthday we take a bird’s eye view of the Bitcoin ecosystem so I won’t go through this whole article um it’s I’ve as I mentioned I’ve linked all of these articles in in the description down below you can check them out but uh kudos to bitcoin uh for its 15th

Birthday and now uh we focus on Hardware wallets and wallets in general in this particular live stream so I wanted to cover this little story uh we get a lot of fud around crypto in general and now it seems there there’s a lot of fud around Hardware

Wallets um I read a post on Reddit a couple of days ago and uh I don’t I didn’t uh think to link it and I’m not going to look for it right now but basically uh the guy said something along the lines of I’ve just set up my

Wallet uh what if I lose it what if I break it what if I lose my seed phrase what if I get killed uh what what’s going to happen I mean it just was a laundry list of all of the things that people worry about when it comes to

Crypto custody and hodling and you know everyone’s afraid they’re going to get hacked and they’re going to lose their crypto and just just on and on and on and on and what really struck me about this and and this is uh I I deal with this every day is that

How uh doubtful people get when it comes to crypto custody it’s just unbelievable to me and what’s really interesting when we look at this fear or or this attitude or whatever it is it’s people go through their day trusting so many institutions they trust the bank with

Their money uh they trust their car with their lives um they trust the government to keep them safe and secure I mean it it’s like uh we have no problem putting all our money in the bank uh direct deposit all that stuff we we don’t worry about going to the ATM

And and having it not give us our money right uh so we’re so trustful of third party uh institutions but the minute the responsibility falls on our oh my God now we doubt everything you know what if what if I what if this happens what if that happens oh my God I

Can’t believe it’s like all of a sudden we’re we’re we’re just inherent doubters as soon as we have all of the Power and responsibility all of a sudden we doubt everything right I get this all the time with people in wallets and uh the first question in the live stream oh what

About this privacy thing are we in danger are our Treasures our ledgers safe to use you know it’s like I don’t know is your bank safe to use you don’t seem to worry about your bank even though it’s you know a you know or the US government it’s a $34 trillion in

Debt Ponzi scheme you don’t seem to care about that but as soon as you are given responsibility and power over your own uh currency all of a sudden you’re just like uh willly you know the sky is falling I don’t know I just I just had

To get that out there I just don’t understand why when uh you know you have the power of a decentralized cryptocurrency and you can self- custody it all of a sudden you’re Chicken Little the sky is falling okay got that one out of the way uh birds bees and trees thank you for

Being here uh there’s a couple people that have filtered in uh some of us would like you to demonstrate some more difficult wallets like cold card uh I do have some cold card videos which uh I would be happy to put in the description

Here or I mean uh I’ll put uh I’ll put some uh links down in the uh in the chat stream here for you guys um and I I do get a lot of requests to demonstrate wallets like this um this is the set video I’ll put a link down in

The description I’m going to put this over here I’m going to put a link in the description for my cold card setup video and I’ll put a link in the description for the cold card connection video for using uh the different uh wallets that are compatible with the cold card um I

Have to say even though I get a lot of people to ask me oh show me about cold card that video didn’t get very many views I don’t know what it is you know um if it’s just the officient Autos that are asking but uh some things are just

Too complicated for people and if you’re interested in cold card bully for you um I think it’s a great wallet it’s super safe and secure it it focuses on security uh you know and it’s uh very transparent open source all that good stuff but I don’t know uh how many people in

The real world actually use it uh most people are drawn to the popular wallets like Ledger which is a much more versatile and Powerful wallet and much easier to use than cold card supports a whole bunch of cryptos uh and third-party wallets cold card is a

Bitcoin only wallet which is fine if all you’re doing is holding Bitcoin uh but yeah I’ll just like put that out there uh let’s cover this story Joseph thank you so much for being here and thank you so much for your generous donations I can’t thank you enough uh

You’ve been very generous almost every live stream you come in you throw some love my way and I really appreciate it Happy New Year my best to you and your family and uh thank you again for being here Daddy is pissed yeah Daddy is pissed I can’t take it anymore

Oh man anyway uh so let’s take a look at what happened with this uh little hack here the founder of a crypto wallet uh the crypto wallet is called Nest lost $125,000 worth of coins after falling for a fake airdrop scam isn’t that crazy uh wallet Nest wallet co-founder

Bill louu said he recently lost uh over 123,000 in in staked ethereum stth while trying to participate in an airdrop on the social media platform X Lou shares his story I just got scammed out of 125 of stth while trying to claim the lgf airdrop and I’m a founder of a wallet

Startup that’s trying to improve wallet security I can’t believe this is happening I’ve always been so careful I saw an article Guide to the airdrop and followed the link to sign a message I didn’t even question it boom most wallets require that users sign for a transaction before whoa

There’s that uh alert for Joseph’s donation very uh much appreciated uh most wallets require that users sign a transaction before connecting to a particular decentralized app which is the last line of defense before Bad actors can move assets out of a wallet ether scan data shows that the

Bad actor sent the stth to Unis swap just minutes later presumably to trade for other coins this is the first time I’ve been scammed I always read about others but never think it could happen to you it looked like such a simple message it’s always someone else’s

Problem so let’s dive into this a little more now I’m sure everyone’s freaking out oh is this going to happen to me well first of all he clicked on a bad link all right uh second of all um he was uh he was connecting with a wallet that had

$123,000 in it um wouldn’t it make more sense to use say a working wallet to claim an airdrop or mint an nft or go on some shady site you’d never heard about number three let let’s let’s dive into this story a little more there were some other mistakes that he made uh this

Block Story goes into a little more detail about it um the the big mistake that he made was uh searching on Google for instructions on how to claim this airdrop and he clicked on a malicious Link in the top search results of his Google Search right uh okay one fake site mimicking the

Official lgf token popped up to steal users funds uh Lou clicked on a link from an article at the top of a Google search that led to the scam website boom another mistake um why would someone that’s involved in crypto security uh do something now we all make

Mistakes I’m not trying to bag on this guy I am not I I I really am not I’m just trying to point out what led to this right so he clicked on a bad link and he connected his wallet I don’t know if it was a it didn’t really

Say whether it was a hardware wallet or just a standalone uh wallet we don’t know for sure it it says he was using metamask uh and but I don’t know if he had his Hardware wallet attached but either way when you authorize your wallet

Um to sign into to a site uh a malicious smart contract can uh get access to the wallet ah now here’s another thing right uh Lou explained uh he was using metamask instead of Nest interesting uh he and this is his excuse oh well I was working with a test

Version of the wallet and fixing some bugs if he had used his own product the wallet would have caught it okay so if he had been using Nest then uh this wouldn’t have happened his wallet would have caught it well why wasn’t he using Nest well because he was doing some work

Uh on the test version and so he decided to use metamask instead so shortcut right like I said I don’t want to bag on the guy but uh you can run three or four browsers on your computer and if you’re working on uh you know the test version

Of your own wallet you could have a working version of your own wallet in a a different browser or maybe on a different computer um I’m thinking the guys could afford to have like a desktop and a laptop right so I mean if you’re like doing Dev on one computer shouldn’t

You have like a working computer that’s got you know a you know a working version of your secure app rather than uh just switching over to uh metamask which as you found out is not as secure as your own wallet which I guess he knew

This uh and what I’m going to say is time pressure which is a a Hallmark of scammers I’m not saying you know he got scammed because he was under time pressure which he sort of induced upon himself right so uh he heard about this airdrop he wanted to get in on the he

Wanted to get in on the airdrop and so out of greed face it guys greed uh he wanted to get something free and so he not only did he not use his own wallet he used metamask because he was in a hurry but he also clicked on a bad Link at the top

Of a Google search result so all of this led him to losing a bunch of crypto and as I mentioned uh we talked about this on the last on the Saturday Night Live stream uh where I explained that if you’re going to do defi if you’re going

To claim airdrops if you’re going to uh mint nfts and do Defi and all that stuff you shouldn’t be using your go-to Hardware wallet or or your Standalone go-to wallet why in God’s name was he using a wallet that had $123,000 worth of St eth in it that

Should have been in his huddle Wallet not his working you know uh day-to-day scammy website wallet uh he should have known better uh I’ll admit I do stuff all the time where I should have known better right I’m not perfect nobody’s perfect uh but I just wanted to show you

The mindset that led to this a lot of people want to blame the wallet oh Ledger’s not safe uh I saw another Reddit post where people were complaining about Ledger not being safe and somebody made the comment that well everyone’s complaining that the wallet’s not safe but then they’re going to

Connect their wallet and go on website and click links and uh uh try to claim airdrops and so all this they they CL the wallet as being not safe they don’t trust it but then they’re they’re so led by greed that they’re going to go click

On links and try to claim airdrops and mint free nfts so they can get something for nothing not this guy I’m just talking in general right I thought that was a great observation on Reddit um that you know people want to blame the wallet and then they engage in Risky

Behavior right so I hope that I’ve made it clear to you guys um that if you uh approach crypto calmly cooly and try not to let greed and time pressure uh push you into making bad decisions then you can protect your crypto right so uh let’s see uh once again

Thanks Joseph I I always appreciate you being here uh what are the top three cold wallets that I prefer that’s a good question uh of course I’ve mentioned Ledger uh I’ve got links down in the description if you’re interested in a ledger uh a lot of people bag on Ledger

Because of the whole uh Fiasco with their uh Recovery Service uh I’m not going to go into that issue but besides that uh this is still the most powerful and flexible and you know and relatively easy to ous wallet out there Bar None uh we had a story uh that

Privacy story where the developer was claiming oh Ledger live is you know uh Gathering your information right and then down like four or five paragraphs into the article the developer said but I still use my ledger because I don’t have any other wallet that can huddle

AVX or Avalanche token for me uh so you know Fair uh Phil Care thank you so much for that subscription so we have a wallet a hardware wallet here that is powerful and flexible and can manage multiple types of crypto uh salana polka dot uh

Avax uh there’s just a lot there’s not a lot of other wallets that can manage the number of coins this wallet can manage right um and if you are you don’t think it’s good because you don’t trust it and they’re not fully open source then maybe you uh would go over to

Treaser uh treasur is also a great wallet does not support as many coins as The Ledger uh ecosystem does but still a great wonderful and open source w now uh you have to you have to realize that the the term open source does is not a very

Good fit for Hardware wallets right uh the the term open- Source generally refers to software right and here when we talk about Hardware wallets we have a combination of a realworld device something you can hold in your hand that is that utilizes software and yeah it’s great if the underlying software is open

Source that’s great there’s nothing wrong with software being open source the problem is applying the entire open source concept to a hardware wallet is not a great fit and everyone everyone thinks that open source is some kind of Holy Grail it has its own pros and cons

Uh so I’m just putting that out there but the treaser Model T which I could the treasure Model T and the treasure model 1 which I guess you can still buy I didn’t think they sold this thing anymore um are both completely open source right they the hardware architecture is public knowledge you

Could build your own if you wanted to so if you want to go that route if you don’t trust anybody or anything um but you do trust open source then hey go with it even though open source means means that people have access to the code and could exploit

It not remotely it’s never been remotely hacked Ledger’s never been remotely hacked um just saying right treasure safe 3 employs a secure element chip so a secure element chip is a proprietary technology and so it is by Design not open source it is a secret so to apply

The term open source across the board for a device that that utilize a software is not a good fit so this whole idea of well it’s not open source I don’t trust it ah right and like I said people trust their Bank their ATM card their credit

Card they don’t know how they work they trust their life with their car they don’t know how that works either at least I don’t um they there’s always a little bit of trust in everything even crypto Hardware wallets we say oh verify don’t trust that applies to bitcoin and

Cryptography and uh public private key encryption right but it doesn’t always apply to real world devices I’ve got off my soap boox let’s talk about tangum real quick and then I also wanted to do a demo for you uh for The Descent wallet but these are my top

Three uh Ledger Tre and tangum tangum is a great uh secure very easy to ous Wallet not as powerful and flexible as The Ledger device uh but very easy to use I like this wallet because it if you set it up the way they intended without a backup phrase it makes it very

Difficult for a newcomer to reveal their seed phrase right because they never see it right uh yes uh the entire backup is on the three cards so if you lose your three cards you lose all your crypto and I don’t know what it sticks in people’s minds

Right uh here you are you’re given three cards and it’s your responsibility not to lose them is that so difficult I mean everybody’s like what if what if what if everybody’s doubting themselves you know uh I they’re not screaming what if you know the bank uh goes fails next month

You know what if the economy collapses what if you know there’s so many things about this world that are that are shaky but as soon as someone says oh you know I’ve got this new product but you’re responsible not to lose it oh everybody’s freaking out oh my God what

If I lose them like why are you going to lose them right someone gives you a brand new watch or a gold coin and you know your grand Grandpa gives you a gold coin for your birthday and you’re like Grandpa I’m sorry I’m just worried I’m

Going to lose it here take it back I I I just can’t be held responsible to you know keep track of my own stuff right so here you go Grandpa here’s your gold coin back I can’t I’m not I just couldn’t I might lose it right I can’t

Trust it I might lose it any who uh and if you’re if you’re that paranoid about not being able to keep track of three cards the new new card has the option of doing a backup phrase which makes it a little more powerful and flexible enough said about

That uh let’s see one key solid information thank you cold card is boss yeah we uh as I gave you some links above for my cold card videos if you’re interested I wanted to talk about the uh The Descent wallet which is a great wallet and uh let’s see I’ve got that

Here I was looking at their card here I’d like to get a hold of that uh card which uh they have a new uh card which looks very similar to the tangum wallet I probably need to do a video on card-based wallets or NFC nearfield Communications because tangum has sort

Of uh opened the floodgates to this technology uh it’s very uh a good way to secure uh cryptographic information of private keys and wallets um so cold card has tap signer which is card-based I haven’t even had a chance to uh I bought one and I still haven’t even uh tried to

Use it yet uh let’s see tap signer right so um cold card has a NFC uh card and uh descent also has a new card-based solution so uh we’re getting into uh you you know a new era of Hardware wallets right kind of uh an evolution of the product

Itself right the only drawback to cards is that they they have no controls on them so uh you you kind of have to rely on the interface which in most cases is your phone and so that’s an attack surface um you know uh someone was uh

Asking for the tangum wallet they said I want to be able to restore my private key without being able to disconnect my phone from everything and apparently it doesn’t work when you do that like when you’re not on WiFi and you’re not you know uh on your wireless uh carrier

You’ve you’ve taken your sim out or whatever you can’t do the restore well you know The Ledger does the restore completely offline uh and so does the uh well I don’t know about the um the uh treaser does require you to connect to treasure Suite during the

Restore right and Ledger live has an interface that you can use for the restore but you can also do your restore on your Ledger device completely offline just you and the device and your seed phrase so if you’re looking for security this this wallet is been proven

Over time all right let’s go ahead and do my demo here before uh we get too far out of whack here let me go over to this other camera uh think we got everything working here this thing’s a little cocky I think that worked out pretty

Well this is my descent wallet now uh one thing that kind of bothers me um which a lot of Hardware wallets do is that they just go to sleep or turn off if you don’t use them and uh I’ve had some issue with this uh fingerprint scanner it was so

Funny because this morning when I I I opened it up and pull it out and and fired it up it worked flawlessly first try but uh ever since then I’m having to enter my pin manually um but that’s like uh uh it’s a fail safe

Right uh a lot of people they when I you know I talk about a biometric wallet they say stuff like what if you get your finger cut off then what you’re going to lose all your crypto if you get your finger cut off and I’m like no you’re

Not going to you’re not going to lose your crypto if your finger gets cut off because it always will uh fall back to the pin right so the Biometrics uh there’s this whole you know or a Biometrics and it’s so much easier and so much more secure yeah

Um I’m the only person with my fingerprint but it’s mostly a convenience feature that allows you to open up the wallet easy because you can always enter a pin you know every biometric wallet has a backup pin entry uh let’s see here well all I I want to show you just quickly The

Descent wallet if I can find it in here where is that thing did I just go right by it there you are all right so notice there uh oops oh I have to do this sorry guys okay you can see what’s on my phone here notice that up in the corner uh it

Says biometric wallet and it’s red this means that it’s not paired to the wallet at the moment now I was just basically going to do a deposit on this thing uh to show you how to fund the wallet uh and you really don’t need the hardware

Device uh paired up to do a deposit because the phone app has the public information of the wallet so uh you don’t need to authorize incoming transactions um now it’s not a bad idea to do a hardware check uh like with a a ledger because you can

Get things mixed up and your accounts can get get discombobulated and it’s always a good idea to do the hardware check but with an app like this I mean I have one device and I have one app so I’m not really worried that I’ve you know messed things up but I’m just going

To tap up here pretty sure that’s how it works there uh so it sees my device right I’m just going to tap it and uh it’s syncing up and boom now we’re good to go and so if I were to try to transfer Bitcoin out then I would have to authorize with the

Device um why don’t we do that just for uh kicks um let’s go over here real quick oh oh you know what let’s just use my ledger app it’s going to we’ll just stick with the phone we’ll go over here to Ledger live uh I won’t go too far into it but I

Know that I’ve got uh let’s see what’s the Bitcoin uh let’s just do the Bitcoin affiliate account it’s got an old style Bitcoin address but that’s no problem uh I’m just going to do a quick receive and grab an address I’m not going to do the verify um we’ll just copy the address

Into my clipboard we’re just doing a quick and dirty demo here um let’s go back over to The Descent wallet um let’s go ahead and uh send this Bitcoin out just so you can see how the wallet authorizes hope you can hear me okay that’s good so I’m just going to paste

In boom like that allow the paste there’s the wallet address I can sort of go back here and double check 4qp four whoops 4qp looks good to me right let’s do next and then how much do I want to send uh I’ll go ahead and send the max

Hopefully that’s going to not have too much trouble we can adjust our fees in this app as well I’m just going to leave them at their default Bitcoin fees are high right now guys extremely high uh insanely High uh someone asked me you know oh my God you know uh what if your

Bank charge you $13 on uh moving $40 yeah yeah it sucks it does but it’s just part of the ecosystem at the moment hopefully um there are there will be uh ways of getting around this but right now uh Bitcoin fees are high and ridiculous I get it I’m just going to do

These demos for you anyway so you can see how this stuff works Bitcoin fees are not always like this right usually you would pay just a couple bucks or even less on something like this but because of all the excitement and activity on the blockchain we’ve got

High fees so we’re going to go next only amount greater than the fee can be transferred okay so maybe it’s not even going to let me do this uh let’s just send 0.1 or whatever whatever that is all right let’s try that okay transferring the current transaction leaves a fragment of the

Balance if the balance is fragmented into small amounts the transaction may not be approved on the blockchain please change the remittance or send the full amount oh okay all right okay looks like we’re having some issues here let’s do that let’s take our uh this down see if

That works nope it’s not going to let me do this is it okay so I guess because the fees are so high um that it’s just not going to let me send this oh oh the balance oh I think I was trying to send more than the balance for

Some reason I don’t know why and now I don’t know what’s happening I was going to do a salana demo today I didn’t want to get in the Weeds on a Bitcoin demo but hey here we are okay yeah it’s uh it’s not giving me any love right now all right let’s try

It again all right uh let’s go ahead and tap that it doesn’t matter well actually if we’re going to do a send we we will need the wallet attached okay let’s try it again see what we got here okay we’re going to do that paste again okay so it’s

0.9 if it’s going to pull up or not boy I’m just not having any fun today okay here we go 0 z0 five the balance is the balance is insufficient I don’t know what that means 00 05 five let’s try 001 no it’s not going it’s I think the

Problem is it’s just not enough Bitcoin in here uh for a a regular trans it’s just like a little like uh Bitcoin dust basically yeah yeah and if I hit Max what does it say I don’t know what it’s doing to me now okay okay okay Bitcoin

Touche okay there all right but it’s still it’s not going to let me do this I’m sure of it nope okay fine Abandon Ship let’s just do what I wanted to do which was um I wanted to send some Solana from my tangum wallet uh and I was going to send it

Over to an exchange so you can watch me cash out right so if I wanted to cash out this salana which probably not the best idea since it’s down 10% today but uh just for Giggles let’s say we want to send this salana out to my exchange so

I’ll just stick with the phone let’s do the phone thing let’s go over to coinbase and say we want to make a deposit uh let’s see if we go to for portfolio and click deposit we want to deposit crypto and we want to switch this to

S all right you can do that there’s our sa address now uh we’ll go back to our tangent wallet I know I kind of abandoned The Descent for a minute there but I’m going to put it back in the Descent once we get it over to

Coinbase all right now I want to paste that address that I got from coinbase there we go and we’ll go ahead and send the max and I need my card so I’ve got my uh card here actually I well I can’t remember which wallet it is I think it’s

This wallet but the wallet will tell me right if I try to use the wrong card it’s going to say he looks like you got the wrong card okay so let’s try again with the right card right that’s this guy there it goes so you see how easy the tangum is to use

Uh and then we can go over to coinbase and just kind of wait for that salana salana is pretty quick uh doesn’t take very long for salana to go from point A to point B so it shouldn’t be very long um and then once we get it into coinbase

Uh we’ll go back and drop it in our descent wallet just want to show you how to move crypto back and forth between different wallets uh I don’t think that that problem with bit coin was really The Descent wallet’s fault I think that with these being so high uh there are

Um security or let’s say there are uh s uh safety uh protocols I guess in the wallet that present prevent you from doing something completely crazy like transferring 40 bucks worth of crypto and paying $1 fees um I think that’s what I was trying to

Do so it probably had some sort of fail safe to prevent me from doing that but that’s okay uh let’s go back over here and uh we can just look in coinbase for our Salon to come in on our desktop we can do that yeah it’s already in there right so

Now that the uh salana is in coinbase we can actually move it Into The Descent let’s do that real quick uh so uh first of all let a lot of people wonder oh I I you know I need to sell what am I going to do I’m freaking out so I just showed

You a really easy way to transfer your crypto from your wallet to your exchange it took me like 30 seconds less um and then once we get it here then we would simply uh trade oura for us dollar right we would just go over and

Sell our s sell it all for dollars 106 right we sell our s for dollars and then we can easily cash out from our exchange right people are always asking me how do I cash out my Bitcoin from my wallet well it’s not that simple it’s a

Two-step process first you got to put it somewhere where uh you can sell it right now a lot of wallets have built-in third-party uh payment processors and people think that’s more direct but it’s really not because uh even if you’re in the wallet’s interface using a third-party payment processor like

Moonay or something like that they’re still a third party just like coinbase right it makes much more sense for me to transfer to coinbase with minimal fees salana is like negligible fees like way below a penny I can transfer my salana to coinbase and cash out within minutes

Goes right into my bank right cuz coinbase is link my bank account is linked to coinbase right easy cash out right let’s move let’s pretend we just bought this salana and we want to put it in our descent wallet so just run back over here real quick I’ll just get this demo

Done uh here I am again this thing has gone to sleep on me um I think what I need to do is go into the settings and tell it I need more time to please I need more time man this is the same finger that worked for me earlier today there Tada it

Worked perfect all right uh not that it really matters because we’re going to use uh the app anyway so uh we’ll go back over to The Descent app and uh let’s get out of this Bitcoin uh drama and let’s go to salana and do a receive all right there’s our salana

Address pretty easy uh they want us to check uh errors and losses you cannot receive on the NF NFC errors and losses other than saw okay well okay I get that um so we got that address in our clipboard um and we don’t really need the the biometric wallet attached at

This point but I can do it just for the heck of it right uh because we’re doing a receipt all right so uh we got the salon address of this wallet and now let I wonder if it’ll let me do a hardware check I don’t think it

Does yeah it doesn’t really yeah that’s just a generalized warning uh so let’s go back over to coinbase and we got the address let’s go to our saw let’s withdraw our sa send sa to and I’ll paste in the address of my descent wallet we’ll hit

Continue uh I’ll go ahead and send it all what the heck uh we’ll do a send now and then uh I just need to put in my two Factor so I’ll go over to my Google Authenticator grab that code slide back over paste it in and that I think I just barely had

Enough time to get that one done boom you’re done okay and then uh we can go back to our descent wallet wherever it is and uh just give it a minute and we should see that Saul come in very shortly boom yeah so Saul is very quick and fast and fees are relatively

Negligible right so crypto is always evolving um and bitcoin’s promise is the lightning Network for fast cheap transaction fees so Mary line thank you so much I didn’t even see that I appreciate it it’s probably going to uh show up here shortly uh I didn’t have a

Whole lot of time today uh because like I said we’re going to be doing chauffeuring for the kids so that they can go visit their friends um but I wanted to get a quick demo there I did a couple of transfers I you saw I had some trouble with my Bitcoin wallet because

Of the lopsided Bitcoin fees uh we’re only talking about $40 worth of bitcoin so I I tend to feel that certain wallets have um you know like safety latches so that you don’t do crazy stuff like I was trying to do um if I had $1,000 worth of

Bitcoin in there probably could have transferred maybe a hundred or so even with high fees uh Ledger does the same thing when you try to send small amounts of Bitcoin that have very high fees it’ll give you warnings which you can kind of override um I guess in The

Descent wallet they don’t give you that option of overriding in those situations uh but anyway uh I’m going to do uh I’m going to get some Standalone videos out I think as I mentioned I want to do like a video that focuses on the various uh card options out there like

Tap signer and the the The Descent card uh following in the footsteps of the tangum wherever it went which you saw me use today very simple and easy to use wallet I really love tangum um but I still use my ledger because there are a lot of cryptos and

Third- party wallets that are not compatible with the tangum and always guys please please please don’t connect your uh goto wallet to Shady sites you know um for like speculative stuff like airdrops and minting nfts and swapping and stuff like that just I mean it’s common sense just get another wallet

It’s not it’s not going to kill you if you’ve got a couple of grand worth of crypto you can afford two wallets right uh The Ledger Nano s+ is like 79 bucks man it’s not going to break the bank so you know get two wallets maybe one Ledger and one tangum more one

Ledger and one treaser or you know one of all three I’ve got wallets laying all over the place and I use them appropriately for the situation right we don’t want to use our go-to wallet to connect to Shady sites that’s the lesson that I think uh comes out of this story

About and it can happen to any of us right even people that are experienced crypto users uh can get caught up in the moment and uh do something risky and regret it at least he had the um the the guts to just uh P publicize this situation maybe probably for the

Benefit of a lot of people right uh share your mistakes in public public I’ve made mistakes myself I’ve revealed my seed phrases during videos didn’t get them blurred right all kinds of stuff like that so yeah we all make mistakes in public even if you’re an expert but

They can be avoided if you even if you’re a newcomer if you just do your research and stay calm uh is it safe to swap in Ledger relatively safe if you want to use Ledger live to do swaps uh just remember that uh if you’re going to do swaps I

Probably wouldn’t do it with the main device um I’ve got uh a couple of different uh devices that I’m managing in this I don’t remember where it was yeah I have uh I have a secondary Ledger device they called this one the blackon black which is pretty cool it’s

Got like a black metal cover as opposed to the my go-to devices like got the metallic silver metallic cover so this is my go-to device my ledger Nano X but then uh I showed uh on the Saturday Night Live stream how to set up my secondary blackon black Ledger Nano

X and uh you can manage both devices in one copy of Ledger live right this account right here is tied to my ledger blackon black this ethereum account is tied to my ledger black on black this Bitcoin account is tied to my ledger black on black there’s nothing in it at

The moment um oh I hate when that happens uh but all of the rest of the accounts are tied to my Legend Ando X my go-to device where I huddle most of my crypto right so uh and if you even if you only have one device you could uh

Put your big Holdings behind a passphrase like if you set a passphrase and you uh can store crypto in your passphrase configuration that uh crypto is not susceptible uh if you connect your uh your base configuration right uh no one can empty a passphrase protected wallet even if it’s on the same Hardware

Wallet right and also uh most of these uh defi hacks are only affect uh ethereum wallets uh for the most part right your Bitcoin is never at risk so you’ll notice that in the story he didn’t lose a bunch of Bitcoin when he connected his Hardware wallet or if it was a hardware

Wallet he lost ethereum because that was the chain he was operating on so you know when you see these stories look to them to be something that can help you rather than something that’s going to make you freak out and think oh it could happen to me well read the story and

Figure out how to avoid it uh having trouble depositing US Dollar on coinbase uh are you uh the last time I tried to deposit US Dollar on coinbase I didn’t have any problems um if you go to your portfolio and do a deposit uh you know you could like add

Cash let me see I think this guy here uh okay yeah this one yeah I mean uh putting $50 in is uh hasn’t been a problem for me I don’t know at what point you had the issue uh but yeah I mean it’s not giving

Me any red flags I’m not going to go through with it because I need that money in my account right now I got to go pay my rent today so I don’t want to put my my uh my real life at risk by doing virtual demos here uh I’m sure I I

Got the extra money but I’m not I’m just not going to do it right now uh but yeah I did it yesterday I put cash in my coinbase account didn’t have any problems so yeah I mean uh might be a coinbase issue could be uh that they’re

Overloaded because of this dump you know whenever we get big dumps and big run-ups coinbase can get overloaded and have glitches and that kind of stuff can you still do nonky cryptos swap video because not all of us crypto guys want to swap with kyc verification you know

Tony you never give up do you uh I did a uh demo of radium on the Saturday Night Live stream I’ve been meaning to make that into a uh a standalone video uh I probably want to kind of re-record what I did uh for radium but uh you know I

Did a pancake swap video a while back that got a lot of views and uh I’ve done some videos on using Unis swap um but the vast majority of people that uh I try to appeal to are newcomers that are setting up wallets buying crypto on coinbase moving it into their

Wallets um not saying that I don’t do defi or that that I don’t try to appeal to the defi crowd uh but I just have uh a different Focus uh but I promise you I will get a video out on radium on on doing uh

Defi um I just don’t like the term non kyc it makes me sound like a moneya launderer when you’re telling me to do stuff that’s nonky it makes me it makes me nervous right who’s watching you work for the FBI or something you know give me advice on how to launder my

Money I try to stay in the mainstream as much as possible buy your cryptos pay your taxes kind of guy anyway uh pardon me has anyone ever read the creature from Jackal Island yes I have read that book and I uh think it’s a mustre for most people oh didn’t work

Out I think it’ll probably come up yeah that’s great book right about the founding of the um Federal Reserve and uh kind of the the scam that is the banking system in the US how it’s controlled by Rich and powerful people uh at our expense right and how it Fosters a debt-based econom

Economy um and that’s what crypto is rejecting right is the uh Fiat Ponzi scheme that’s what Bitcoin was created in 2008 early 2009 today’s the birthday as a rejection of the uh mainstream Financial system this was right after the financial crisis of 2008 where everyone I mean they even the the

Treasury secretary and the uh the Federal Reserve chairman I forget which one Paulson I think or somebody said you know we were like hours away of for all of the ATMs in the US to crash you know I mean that’s how close we were in 2008 of the entire system collapsing and how

Did we fix it we just created more money out of thin air right and here we are 15 years later and we’re still uh the US debt hit 34 trillion was announced by the treasury Department yesterday and uh Bitcoin is still around so it just goes to show

You hey guys uh one once again thanks Tony I know you keep asking me about it I’m working on a defi I’m working on a def video uh I think defi is very exciting and it’s a great way to earn passive income so I promise you I will get uh that radium uh

Video done so that uh you can enjoy uh some uh liquidity pools and uh farming on the salana Chain right once again uh I want to thank everybody for being here I’m going to have to uh duck out and get back to the real life today uh Kenny

Thank you for the news stories as always Joseph and Marilyn thank you so much for the donations I really appreciate it I want to thank everybody body here that ask questions if I did not get to your question I apologize and I will direct

You down if I can find my mouse to the description of the video uh wherever it is if you look in the description of this video uh down at the very bottom I’ve got several ways to get a hold of me one of them is my email the

Cryptodata gmail.com if I didn’t get to your question please please please um send me an email I’ll do my very best to answer your question uh my New Year’s resolution this year is to get more involved uh online with answering people’s questions on other platforms like Reddit I’m going to focus on going

Into Reddit and reading uh posts in The Ledger uh groups and in the tangum groups and try to you know uh give my expertise and my opinion and my experience in those groups uh and Twitter as well but uh probably mostly focusing on Reddit so that’s my resolution is to get more involved

Helping people on those platforms uh I like to help people and it will increase my exposure across mediums so that’s my resolution I hope everyone else has a great New Year’s resolution be it uh eat less exercise more uh stop smoking uh stop binge eating whatever your New

Year’s resolution the best of luck to everyone this year 20124 uh it’s going to be a great year so uh let’s see I’m going to do this thing here I think I’ve got this new uh stream format ah see there it is the

Camera whoops the the I I had I did a uh an interview uh yesterday and had my camera pointed down further than I usually do on my live streams so uh kind of jiggled it a bit but uh don’t forget I’m going to do the hardware wallet Roundup every Wednesday next week might

Be 12 um and I do my live stream uh Q&A every Saturday night 6 p.m Eastern Standard Time don’t miss that and uh subscribe and like to this video or like this video And subscribe to my channel uh for more crypto uh uh information uh managing Hardware wallets making

Transfers and staying calm in uh an environment where uh fear and greed tend to rain right I’ll be here to help you navigate that calm storm uh once again I want to thank everyone for being here read a hundred books this year that’s a really good one I like that yeah um I’m

Not too good with um crypto uh uh Twitter messages but I’m gonna try to improve on that this year so I’ll look in your uh my Twitter messages uh for your um whatever you want to send me I’ll do my best

  1. Great video crypto dad. Can I recommend wallet guard to everyone who's on desktop. Wallet guard is the best extension to catch phishing sites with all the human errors happening, I think degens need to use wallet guard to save them from getting assets drained

  2. This is why crypto will never be mainstream… guy gets his crypto stolen by his own error using his cold storage wallet… then gets ridiculed that he’s suppose to have more than ONE hardware wallet and should keep too much on one. how much more complicated do people want to make this crypto space!! it’s becoming a circus.

  3. It’s an unfortunate fact that people in general tend to trust others more than themselves. They just don’t want to take any personal responsibility! Or don’t dare to. That’s why self-custody doesn’t work for most people. And never will. This is also the reason why scammers are so successful. The victims trust the scammers more than anybody else, although in many cases the scam is obvious! Decentralisation, taking control over your own funds, is essential. But will it ever work when people cannot even store/remember 24 words? I doubt it.
